Siemens SI-RSS-EPS business is looking for a Decarbonization Technical Expert for its Project Development Team to support our Sustainability Advisory Business (SAB). The shift to net-zero is transforming the worldwide economy, creating fresh opportunities while also posing risks of ill-informed, unacceptable, and underperforming decarbonization strategies. Corporates are confronted with several essential tasks: lowering emissions, guaranteeing the cost-effectiveness of energy and materials, establishing dependable and secure energy systems, and enhancing competitiveness. To address these challenges effectively, the Project Development team act as technical partner for our customers that provides solutions and services for the energy infrastructure over the entire lifecycle. We are focusing on energy efficiency, decarbonization and the continuous operation optimization of demand and supply side assets

Location: Our new colleague may work from Zug, Switzerland or other location - in Germany, EMEA or RAM - to be agreed, based to presence of a bigger Siemens EPS office

The Role

As Decarbonization Technical Expert you will be responsible for the understanding of goals and strategy, technical consulting leading the decarbonization customer journey. You will also work closely with a range of experts in the firm and will actively support through your engineering expertise the development of SAB (Sustainability Advisory Business), providing technical well-informed strategy formulation, goal-setting, planning, road mapping, regulatory compliance, benchmarking, and assessment, to lay a solid foundation for implementing, decarbonization projects, technologies, and delivering continuous improvements through performance services

Your new responsibilities

  • Main technical point of contact to develop concepts and designs for decarbonization solutions (energy demand optimization / renewable energy generation onsite / renewable energy procurement) incl. technical parameters (electric and thermal capacities, temperatures and pressure levels, volume flows, efficiency and performance, energy consumption, space requirements, high level technical feasibility), financial parameters (CAPEX, OPEX, Simple Pay Back, Return on Invest, Internal Rate of Return, Life Cycle Costs – this should also include subsidies and funds applicable for the specific site), environmental parameters (GHG reduction Scope 1- 2 and optionally Scope 3, land use, water use, life time and recyclability etc.)

  • Translate the decarbonization solutions developed into best applicable implementation roadmaps in line with customer climate targets and customer priorities

  • Communicating with customer stakeholders to gather information about business processes, sustainability goals, and decarbonization challenges

  • Synthesize complex information into clear takeaways and recommendations using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Make reports and presentations with recommendations on decarbonization strategy implementation, regulatory compliance, benchmarking, and assessment

  • Work effectively with diverse teams to come up with the best solution and move people and organizations of our customers to act. Communicate effectively with all audiences, including senior leaders, in a structured manner

  • Internal Quality Gate for local solution design. Ensure internal (EPS) Due Diligence is followed, main interface for TRR (Technical Risk Review) preparation as part of LoA

Your talents and experience

  • Master’s degree in engineering (mechanical/energy) with prior relevant experience in sustainability and energy audits, preferably in the following verticals (food & beverage, automotive, pharmaceutical)

  • Proven long-term experience (min. 10 years) in optimization, concept and designing of energy systems (thermal and electric) for manufacturing industrial and large commercial building infrastructure (design of technically and financially viable decarbonization solutions)

  • Strong knowledge of business practices linked to energy projects and understanding of Measurement and Verification (M&V) protocols. Tracked proven experience of executed solutions results will be highly considered

  • Be able to develop deep understanding of the business context and technical landscape, especially on sustainability and ESG related topics

  • Analytical thinking for translating complex and unstructured data into meaningful statistics, information, and solution

  • Excellent presentation skills and creativity with ability to visually and verbally express content to motivate business leaders, esp. C-suite executives

  • High proficiency in MS Excel and any other research, technical analysis, energy flow and presentation tools

  • Ability to work towards strict deadlines, manage and prioritize tasks

  • Ability to work with global virtual teams/ clients

  • Commitment to international travel (30-40% of working time)

  • Proactiveness, planning, organizing and attention to details

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

  • Fluent in English
