Telecommunications Operator - St Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital - Mercy Health

PRINCIPAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Accommodate all persons requesting service in a positive, courteous manner. Provides customer service that exceeds their expectations by demonstrating behavior that makes the costumer feel welcome, comfortable and valued.

  • Listen to customers to understand their needs, giving full attention to each person.

  • Answers all incoming and most in-house telephone inquiries regarding patient room numbers, conditions and discharge information.

  • Updates the departmental listings for online phone directory and telecom system utilizing various reports from the HR Department, submission from the online program and various other methods of notification.

  • Provides necessary assistance during fire drills/alarms or disasters.

  • Support of On-Call Calendar in conjunction with Medical Staff office and the Director of Nursing.

  • Attends department meetings, educational programs, in-service and mandatory meetings.

  • Provide feedback of associate performance as requested by Manager of PBX Telecommunications.

  • Monitor and maintains all paging equipment, both in-house and long range. Monitor, replace and assign pagers to staff. Assign and manage all code and emergency group pagers.

  • Complete knowledge of hospital disaster plans and able to respond immediately following established procedures and protocols.

SPECIALIZED AND/OR TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Personal computer skills. Experience with database entry and reporting.

  • Experience with data analysis, and health care operations.

  • Strong skills in independent problem solving and process management.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in collaboration with patients, non-clinical staff, clinical staff and resident physicians and students.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, communicates information correctly.

  • Self-directed, self-starter and able to implement new programs, understanding of systems and change process.

  • Highly organized, detail oriented, tactful and diplomacy.

  • Accepts responsibility and follow through on projects and activities.

  • Ability to analyze and present data accurately and effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION :

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with the ability to speak clearly.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-2 year’s answering service, call center, or PBX experience including answering phones and paging required; hospital environment preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years computer, clerical and scheduling experience.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
