DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: POSITION SUMMARY

Sr. Quality & Continuous Improvement Engineer

Provides technical support for quality, process engineering, and related programs. Responsibilities include supporting activities from receipt and processing of raw materials (lumber, hardware, finishing products, etc.) through shipment of finished products. The incumbent works collaboratively with the Q & CI staff, Facilities Engineering, and Production Management to improve safety, product quality, and process consistency. The expectations below highlight significant areas of responsibility that are accomplished in this role but are not meant to be all-inclusive.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES General  * Follows all safety rules, promotes a safe work environment, and recommends changes/additions to safety policies.  * Supports Manufacturing, Quality, Repair, Process Engineering, and Continuous Improvement activities.  * Evaluate and implement automated and manual improvements to manufacturing processes that promote quality, efficiency, and productivity.  * Assists in designing and implementing fixturing/jigs to improve quality and productivity.  * Organizes manufacturing and quality workflows and resources.  * Integrates disparate systems (e.g. cure processes, equipment handling, transport)  * Optimizes facility layouts, production lines, and machine operations.  * Collaborates with other engineers, contractors, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and delays in production.  * Find ways to reduce costs and maximize quality.  * Train staff in new and existing processes.  * Ensures manufacturing procedures follow safety and environmental regulations  * Keeps management and others abreast of significant issues or developments.  * Supports other departments/functions as needed to ensure operational efficiencies.  * All other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Quality  * Resolves quality issues. This may include direct customer contact and interaction with the sales team or others close to the problem to resolve and drive permanent corrective actions.  * Implements changes within the Quality Management System.  * Works with peers and the Q & CI teams to develop quality improvement initiatives.  * Ensure internal audits of existing processes are performed and changed/evaluated as necessary to continually meet/exceed customer expectations.  * Trains department supervisors and operators to ensure that standards are understood.  * Supports kiln operations to ensure maximum product yield and quality.  * Set quality standards with the product management team as new products are introduced.  * Maintains accurate documentation of quality standards, work instructions, quality records, and other related documentation.  * Develop methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of products.  * Performs root cause analysis on product/process-related issues.  * Utilize risk assessment tools (e.g., PFMEAs) to identify actions to reduce risks.

Continuous Improvement  * Lead key Lean Manufacturing projects, providing leadership in developing practical solutions to complex analytical problems.  * Improves production processes using Kaizen events, process mapping, 5s, or other lean tools.  * Identify trends and process variations for future improvement initiatives.  * Train all personnel on best practices and new standards and advocate for positive change.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS  * Degree in mechanical engineering or related field.  * Minimum 5 years of engineering experience; supervisory experience preferred.  * Proven track record of solving problems and implementing improvement.  * Experience with woodworking machinery or craft. Knowledge of Kiln operations is a plus.  * Lean manufacturing training and experience. Green belt or higher preferred.  * Analytical thinker with good interpersonal skills.
