DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Job Summary The Quality Assurance Manager is accountable for organizing and maintaining quality control procedures and programs and to be responsive to sales and the market in order that demand for such programs is met. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager with dotted line reporting into the Corporate Director of Quality Management. 

Summary of Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities    * Verify that inspection procedures by all warehouse personnel are accurate and in compliance with quality control procedures * Establish quality control standards and procedures to be followed by the operations and sales departments and ensure that all necessary personnel are aware of these policies * Inspect incoming and outgoing material to ensure that specifications are met, refusing any shipments that do not meet specifications * Establish and maintain a program for providing actual chemical analysis for all carbon steel coils as the material arrives * Inspect all returns and rejected material in order to determine where errors were made and to prevent future errors * Establish programs to educate, train, and update all personnel on quality control procedures; develop and maintain a quality control manual * Establish, monitor, and maintain a system of providing heat numbers and tracing for all material in the warehouse * Develop specific programs for individual accounts as required and assist customers and other service centers in developing quality control procedures * Other duties as assigned

Preferred Education and/or Experience  * Advanced level courses in Business Administration, or equivalent business experience * 3-4 years of operations experience in a metals service center; at least 2 years of this experience should be in the areas of quality control and maintenance * 2-year college degree or equivalent * 5-7 years of experience in steel service industry * Safety or compliance management experience * Strong computer/technical skills * Knowledge of ISO-9001, QS-9000, TS-16949, ISO-14000 standards  * Excellent analytical skills * Strong communication skills, both verbal and written  * Attention to detail and deadline oriented * Excellent organization and time management skills
