TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E281 Transportation Engineer I, II, III, or IV - Yoakum District Construction in Yoakum, Texas

Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer I: Coordinates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible.Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Engineer II: In addition to the above:Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Assists in developing and monitoring budgets.Oversees construction and audit records.Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects. Transportation Engineer III: In addition to the above:Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for complex projects.Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for complex projects. Transportation Engineer IV: In addition to the above:Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for highly complex projects.Chairs or serves as a member of a contract selection team.Conducts final inspections on completed construction projects.Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance.Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.
