Responsible for learning tool and die trade, including the operation of lathes, CNC machines, milling machines, grinders, heat treating furnaces, etc. Assists in the fabrication of tools and dies. Works in production departments to replace or repair machinery.

  • Is capable of receiving and interpreting verbal instructions, drawings, and blueprints.

  • Uses precision hand tools and measuring equipment. Learns how to set up and operate tool room machines. Includes lathes, milling machines, drill press, band saw, CNC machines, and grinders.

  • Learns to handle and use machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring devices.

  • Operates heat treating furnaces.

  • Fabricates new or replacement parts for dies or machines.

  • Supports other tool makers as required.

  • Produces prototype parts as required.

  • Learns fabrication and trouble shooting of all production machines and stamping dies.

  • Completes paperwork as required including job cards, inspection reports, logs, etc.

  • Keeps work area neat, clean, organized, and under control.

  • Is responsible for quality and safety of own work and compliance of all company procedures and policies.

Qualifications

  • Required: High school education with one year machine shop experience.

  • Preferred: Associate’s degree in tool & die or mold making with six months on-the-job experience in machine shop functions
