Garco Construction Inc. Construction Site Safety And Health Officer (SSHO) in Yakima, Washington

This is a full-time position on a construction jobsite and in an office environment. The Construction Site Safety and Health Officer is responsible for planning, managing and administering the safety of the construction project. The qualified candidate must be detail-oriented, knowledgeable of safety laws, codes, and regulations, and be able to, among other duties assigned from time to time:

  • Implement and administer project Accident Prevention Plan, and applicable safety standards as warrant from the EM 385 1-1, OSHA 1926 Standards, and Company Safety and Health Program whichever is more stringent shall apply.

  • Assist in control of hazardous working conditions and activities through interface with project management team and subcontractors.

  • Conduct training of new workers to the project including subcontractors.

  • Conduct briefings for visitors to the project site on activities and associated hazards. Ensure PPE are available for visitor use.

  • Communicate and collaborate daily with project management team and subcontractors.

  • Conduct daily safety inspection with the emphasis on continuous improvement and best practices. Maintain project safety and occupational health deficiency tracking system.

  • Investigate all injury and property damage incident and accidents occurring on the project. Identify cause(s) and lessons learned.

  • Develop Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) for work activities as identified in the specifications.

  • Conduct weekly safety meetings to cover safety topics pertaining to the project or specific work activity.

  • Participate and assist in emergency planning and evaluation.

  • Ensure safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) is in good working condition.

  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for products on the job site.

  • Ensure jobsite safety postings are up-dated.

  • Maintains professional certifications and current knowledge of all safety and health laws, standards, and regulations.

  • Maintain safety and health related records and documents for project.

  • Communicate effectively, verbally or in writing, with management and staff, as well as third parties, such as owners, architects, subcontractors, and suppliers

The qualified candidate will also have strong relationship building skills, effective communication, and the ability organize and evaluate information and proactively find solutions and lead others.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Safety Engineering, Safety and Occupation Health, and/or Industrial Hygiene

  • Preferred Registered Professional Safety Engineer, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

  • Experience with HSI Safety Platform, RMS and Procore® Construction Software preferred

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • Pass a Pre-Employment Drug Test

This is a safety sensitive position under RCW 49.44.240.

The salary range for this position is between $90,000 and $140,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The Employee may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
