NJ Employer Agricultural Equipment Operator in Wyoming, New York

Anticipated period of employment: 09/05/2024 to 10/31/2024

All applicants must have 3 months experience hand harvesting a perishable crop. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers.

Crops: Squash, dry beans, beans, beets, corn, greens, kale & spinach ,hay and wheat. Workers must be capable of a wide range of tasks. Equipment related work includes being able to operate farm machinery including tractors with GPS, perform tillage and cultivation tasks, and run harvesting equipment. At least 1 worker must be able to drive a pickup with a trailer attached and operate a skidsteer. Workers will assist with equipment maintenance while in the field. In addition, manual field work is required. This includes picking rocks by hand, hand hoeing to cultivate, weeding crops by hand, and hand harvest work. During squash harvest, workers will be carrying a full container weighing Approximately 50 lbs and empty this into a bin. Workers must pull and discard culls as directed by the supervisor. Pickers must take care not to bruise or scar produce. Some maintenance of fields, hedgerows, storage facilities, and buildings will also be required. Use hand tools including hoes, knives, shears, and other tools. Duties include tilling of soil, weeding, thinning crops, and picking stone, and harvesting crops. Identification of plants, weeds, and pests. Operate trucks, car, pickup, van, or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmers fields and/or transport workers to the grocery store, or bank on an as-needed basis. Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities. See ETA 790/790A for a complete job description.
