About the job

We are seeking for a System Administrator to work in the Mobile team that is responsible for taking care of the backend services for Opera Mini product, VPN-like proxies and other Opera services, mostly on bare metal machines, that are currently serving more than 200 million users. You will be working in a team of a few system administrators, developers and QAs, with varying levels of experience, handling thousands of machines.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Configuring, upkeep, designing and developing architecture and infrastructure

  • Setting up, maintenance and debugging on Operating System, network and application level

  • Hardware and software troubleshooting, setting up OS on thousands of machines, handling Debian flavor of Linux

  • Writing and modifying small tools, automation of repetitive tasks

Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Linux System Administration or similar role

  • Strong knowledge and experience in Linux-based IT environments

  • Proficiency in networking concepts, protocols, and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, HTTP2, WebSockets, etc.).

  • Familiarity with two programming languages

  • Strong analytical problem solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team

If you are familiar with some of these technologies and are eager to learn others, you will thrive in our team:

  • SQL databases, data replication, MySQL, MariaDB Galera clusters

  • system monitoring (Grafana, Nagios, Prometheus, Icinga) administration

  • S.M.A.R.T. hardware disk monitoring, IPMI, etc.

  • Linux routing, iptables, tcpdump, systemd

  • LVS/IPVS clusters, VRRP/keepalived

  • Automation via Puppet, Ansible etc.

  • Nginx as a web server, load balancer

  • SSL/TLS, general encryption mechanisms, secure remote access etc.
