The Senior Engineer (Electrical) shall provide engineering services support basic to complex modifications, and installation of equipment or future expansion at the Component Research Air Facility and other facilities supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB (WPAFB). Candidate MUST possess as a minimum the technical skills and knowledge detailed below.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering services to include design to provide a deliverable in support of future requirements to fabricate for new installations modify designed systems, or currently installed systems.

  • Apply scientific methods, engineering disciplines, and trade disciplines to a variety of activities such as theoretical analysis of specific problems; Trade-off comparisons; research/test article design, fabrication, and installation from concept description; equipment design, fabrication, installation, and operation; instrumentation and measurement and other automation techniques; and system safety engineering analysis, as appropriate, for concepts, apparatus, and facilities.

  • Conduct, when required by the government, an engineering design, modification of existing hardware, design of research apparatus, software design and configuration, and operation of facilities document to resolve support requirements.

  • Generate designs, plans, and/or specifications, and maintenance and operation procedures to resolve the engineering projects, facilities, structures, systems, processes, equipment, devices, materials, or methods and ensure all tasks are completed on schedule and meet technical, quality, and safety standards.

  • Design drawings may be required to be sealed following the requirements of the Ohio State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.

  • All designs and related engineering information shall be developed using the appropriate AFRL/RQ CAD/CAE software

  • Apply scientific methods, engineering disciplines, and trade disciplines to a variety of activities such as theoretical analysis of specific problems; trade-off comparisons; research/test article design, fabrication, and installation from concept description; equipment design, fabrication, installation, and operation; instrumentation and measurement and other automation techniques; and system safety engineering analysis, as appropriate, for concepts, apparatus, and facilities.

  • Complete annual company and customer-required training, as required.

  • Complete timesheets daily in an online system according to company policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering an ABET-accredited engineering program with 7+ years of experience and 5+ years of project engineering experience supporting industrial or institutional facilities (OR)

  • Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program with 5+ years of project engineering-related experience supporting industrial or institutional facilities

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Background check required and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust/NACI to start

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in industrial or institutional facilities and design of modifications to power distribution systems from 120V through 480V to support: Large rotating equipment,

  • High-pressure air systems,

  • Vacuum systems and specialized research hardware used in conjunction with advanced propulsion, combustion, and energy/power/thermal research.

  • The facility hardware includes mechanical, electrical and electromechanical systems and subsystems associated with large rotating equipment including compressor and drive systems

  • HHE motor-driven compressors, Air Heaters, Fuel Farms, CNG facility, and associated ancillary equipment of these large components.

  • Experience with high power, medium voltage (4kV to 12 kV) systems would be beneficial.

  • Experience with main switchgear and Motor Control Centers (MCCs), transformers, power distribution to equipment and instruments throughout the facility, including hazardous-classified areas, industrial process control systems, motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and/or equipment specification, and lighting.

  • Must be knowledgeable in NFPA70 and 70E standards.

  • Advanced working knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to comply with applicable codes and standards of contract.

  • Ability to pass customer security requirements required.

  • Ability to attend all customer in-person meetings and conferences as required.

  • Ability to self-start and work independently or as a team.

  • Ability to interact verbally and in writing with all levels of staff, government personnel, and management on a professional level.

  • Possess strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required.

  • Travel up to 10% as required.
