We are seeking a Bi Lingual Medical Interpreter in English and Portuguese or English and Spanish.

This position is NOT remote and requires the ability to commute to the Worcester Clinic.

We are currently hiring a Medical Interpreter based in Worcester.  This position provides medical interpretation at the health center. Transmits verbal/non-verbal, factual and effective messages accurately to patients, staff and health care providers on behalf of patients who are not fluent in the English language. Will adhere to the Standards of Practice of medical interpreters outlined by the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA). Provides cultural information relevant to the topic to assist in bridging the communication between patients and health center staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides medical interpretation in the language assigned for coverage.

  • Communicates cultural nuances to enhance the understating of the dialogue.

  • Interprets over the telephone when required.

  • Makes calls to patients in the language assigned to relay any information relevant to the patient’s future needs at the health center.

  • Calls patients speaking other languages by using the interpreter services from our telephonic vendor.

  • Monitors ASL requests and ensures the availability and deployment of the Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) units.

  • Books through our Over the Phone Interpreting (OPI) vendor any Languages of Lesser Diffusion appointments.

  • Logs all interpreting assignment data on the departmental Interpreter Log.

  • Translates/proofreads short written materials

  • Maintains confidentiality on all information interpreted, translated, and discussed related to patients.

    Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Successful completion of Medical Interpreter Certification course
