The world Leader in Glucose Monitoring, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops, and manufactures glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings. We have a Centre of Excellence in Witney for the development and manufacture of electrodes and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The site has been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System as well as exciting developments in the Libre family including FreeStyle Libre 2, FreeStyle Libre 3, and the Libre Sense system. We currently have an opportunity for a Principal Laboratory Technician to join our Research and Development team, providing pivotal support to the ongoing activities around our future growth as a business. The R&D Principal Laboratory Technician role will be responsible for the daily processes conducted within the R&D Sensor Laboratories ensuring that all equipment and materials are available to support business critical product testing and new project introductions.

Due to the everchanging product pipeline and introduction of new sensor technology the role requires adaptability to new and complex test techniques and instrumentation. The role will be active in supporting sensor tests and assisting R&D Scientists/Engineers in product development activities. As a Subject Matter Expert in multiple Laboratory processes that maintain progression of daily activities (quality, compliance, machine calibration, etc) they will ensure that equipment is available, operational and that the area is in a compliant audit ready state. The role will be involved with the planning and logistics of all R&D sensor-based studies including the production of test protocols, procedures and provide support, guidance, and knowledge to other functions on site within product investigations. The role will have line management responsibility for Laboratory Technicians working within the area and, if required, the incumbent will step into leading the Sensor Laboratories in the absence of the Laboratory Co-ordinator.

Main responsibilities

Day to day control of R&D Sensor Laboratories and support of test scheduling.

Sensor testing as and when required.

Equipment and material maintenance with both internal and external functions.

Management and maintenance of area procedures and other associated documentation.

Works closely alongside R&D Scientists and Engineers.

Uses previous Laboratory experience and knowledge in acting as SME for R&D Sensor Laboratory equipment and processes.

Provides knowledge, guidance, and support to sitewide product investigations.

Provide complex and detailed project information/feedback to R&D Sensor Co-ordinator and other technical functions within the Department.

Takes a lead role in Sensor Laboratory Quality, Compliance and EHS initiatives.

Provide support to the continuous development of new and complex Sensor products.

Line management of direct reports and takes ownership of Sensor Laboratories in the absence of Laboratory coordinator.
