Black & McDonald Limited Labourer/Landscaper in Winnipeg, Manitoba

As a Labourer/landscaper you will be responsible for maintaining various Manitoba Hydro site locations in the City of Winnipeg and surrounding areas.

The range of duties includes backfilling holes, topsoil & seed installation as well as laying down sod. As well you may be required to operate various vehicles which include (5 ton minidump, dump trailer & water truck to be driven around jobsites.

You should be available to work Monday - Friday between 7 am to 5 pm and occasional weekends (if required) and be able to operate a variety of equipment and tools as well as lift 20-30 pounds. This is an outdoor position, and the Labourer/landscaper must enjoy working outdoors in a variety of temperatures. You need to understand and follow verbal directions with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities for Labourer /landscaper

  • Water grass seed & sod using water truck.

  • Tend to various sites, digging trenches, backfilling, topsoil, seed & sod installations.

  • Power rake off sidewalks/parking lots and yards

  • Operate larger powered machinery and equipment (e.g., 5 ton minidump, dump trailers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, weed eaters, power rakes, concrete saw, jack hammer)

  • Move backfill material (crushed rock, sand, soil & sod) with wheelbarrow.

  • Sweep and tidy work areas to maintain cleanliness.

  • Conduct needed repairs on equipment or other outdoor structures (e.g., fences, gates).

Qualifications for Labourer/landscaper

  • Class 5 driver's license (Class 3 encouraged)

  • Experience lawn care preferred. (Installing sod, topsoil & seed)

  • Available to work Monday - Friday between 7am to 5 pm & weekends (If required)

  • Able to operate a variety of equipment and tools.

  • Able to lift 20-30 pounds.

  • Enjoy working outdoors in a variety of temperatures.

  • Extensive periods of sitting, standing and bending down during shift

  • Ability to understand verbal directions and closely execute with minimal supervision.

  • Reliable transportation to work location.
