Director of Operations - Windsor International Airport

 

Reporting to the President/Chief Executive Officer, this position will assist on all matters related to the operations of the Windsor International Airport including the Airport terminal and all groundside and airside areas, maintaining and operating the Airport in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, Canadian Aviation Regulations. 

The Director of Operations plays a pivotal role in overseeing the daily operations and strategic management of airport services plans, including airfield operations, emergency response and building maintenance. The Director of Operations also oversees complex construction projects and develops policies, procedures, and manuals. The incumbent is also accountable for developing and maintaining effective working relationships with airport tenants, public officials, other governmental agency representatives, airport staff, and the public.

General Responsibilities

  • Lead the Operations Department in planning, coordination, and management of daily operations, including airfield operations, building services and airline underwing services within budget

  • Provide strategic leadership, establish policies and procedures for airport operations aligning with YQG organizational goals.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing operations team through coaching, training and succession planning

  • Ensure the development and maintenance of airport infrastructure is the highest standard

  • Oversee the administration of third-party provided services and their performance

  • Develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives to improve business processes to drive growth

  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards

  • Liaise with all applicable government authorities, including Transport Canada, NAV Canada, CATSA, and local airport stakeholders.

  • Oversee the execution of the 10 -year capital plan, as recommended by the Airport Operating Committee and approved by Windsor City Council.

  • Participate in safety management audits and investigations and assist with internal, independent and Transport Canada audits.

  • Support communication (internal and external) and public relation activities, such as scheduling, organizing and ensuring that project target dates and/or deadlines are met.

  • Will be involved in the development of Business Continuity Plans; Emergency Preparedness and Response as required; and will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as required.

  • Participate in all development planning requests and studies along with City of Windsor staff

    Qualifications

  • Must possess a post-secondary degree or recognized tertiary-level industry certification in airport management, engineering, business administration, or other related field in operations management, combined with 10 years of proven, relevant and applicable senior leadership experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to satisfactorily meet the demands of the position

  • Working in a unionized environment will be considered an asset

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and regulations related to airport operations including safety management systems and Transport Canada regulations.

  • A role model for professional excellence, able to instill professional discipline and sustain a continuous improvement culture

  • Proficiency in business and management principles, strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

  • A track record of success in driving business growth and improving operational efficiencies with strong analytical, planning and communications skills both oral and written

  • Expertise in developing operating and capital budgets

  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer-centric environment

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices and records management programs

  • Must hold a valid Ontario driver’s license.

  • ​​Must be able to meet the security level clearance designated for the position
