Miller Milling Assistant Plant Manager in Winchester, Virginia

Summary:

The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for providing leadership under directions from the Plant Manager focusing on Employee Safety, Food Safety, and Operational Efficiencies. Focused on continuous improvement and delivering objectives that focus on areas such as cost reduction, quality improvement, new product development and/or integSaration as undertaken at the plant level. This role manages various plant staff functions both directly and indirectly.

Bachelor’s degree in Milling Science, Engineering Sciences, or equivalent experience.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000 per year

Primary Duties:

Assistant Plant Management

  • General oversight of operations including employee safety, production, packaging, shipping, food safety, and environmental permitting.

  • Assist in annual budgeting, including monthly budget expense justification and explanation for their departments.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory matters regarding food safety, safety, environmental and labor.

  • Recommend and assist Plant Manager with annual capital project planning and expenditures.

  • Assist Plant Manager to formulate, recommend, and implement short- and long-term operating objectives in areas such as cost reduction, quality improvement, new product development and/or integration as undertaken at the plant level that generate efficiencies, and competitive positioning.

    Management

  • Develop and engage direct reports to maximize their potential and the potential of their team members in line with business objectives.

  • Provide leadership to ensure a strong culture of accountability where employees are committed and motivated to contribute their ideas and efforts.

  • Assist in the creation of plant goals and their leading indicators to ensure the achievement of company goals.

  • Assist and facilitate training and development of plant personnel.

  • Drive customer execution to deliver results that meet quality and customer service objectives.

  • Provide positive labor relations management.

    Administration

  • Provide regular updates via written reports, conference calls, to the Plant Manager and various members of the corporate teams as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

  • Ensure all employees are trained in safety and food safety programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Be available 24/7 as needed by the production facility.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Milling Science, Engineering Sciences, or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience in various aspects of production management in milling, food, or related industry

  • Expertise, prior experience and demonstrated outcomes in various facets of manufacturing required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to use tact, judgment, and diplomacy

  • Proven ability to identify issues, obtain relevant information, and relate / compare facts from different sources to identify solutions

  • Willing and able to be on call all hours for any plant related issues

  • Must have excellent communication and verbal skills

  • Experience with production systems and processes

  • Knowledge and experience in continuous improvement methodologies, tools, trends and best practices

  • This role requires competencies in the areas of influence, communication, teamwork, interpersonal effectiveness, initiative and process discipline

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
