Contributes to the Hospital’s mission to care, to heal, and to excel in service to our community by being an integral part of the surgical services team assisting with patient care and responding to planned and unplanned surgical events. This non-licensed clinical staff position has an impact on reducing patient harm by preparing and maintaining sterile fields and equipment and on physician satisfaction and the overall effectiveness of the surgical services team by anticipating their needs.

Job Description:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Required: Graduate of an accredited or US Armed Forces Surgical Technologists school and/or program or employed as a Surgical Technologist at a surgical facility on or before July 1, 2013.

Preferred: At least one year operating room scrub experience

Other Skills/Knowledge:

Required:

  • Basic computer skills

  • For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors and fellow members of the hospital team

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: Must obtain Surgical Technician Certification within 12 months of graduation date.

Preferred: Current Surgical Technician Certification upon hire

Note: Surgical Technologists that were employed as Surgical Technologists in a surgical facility prior to July 1, 2013 are exempted from the certification requirement, as allowed by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Basic Life Support

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

On-call: Participates in on-call rotation as assigned

Schedule requirements: May be required to stay beyond shift based on patient and/or department needs.
