D.A. Collins Companies Lead Estimator in Wilton, New York

The D.A. Collins Family of Companies has brought safety, quality and productivity to industrial, infrastructure, highway and bridge construction for over 70 years. As a member of the D.A. Collins Companies, D.A. Collins Construction Co., Inc. is seeking a full time Lead Estimator at our corporate office located in Wilton, NY, just outside the historic city of Saratoga Springs.

Job responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Follow and reinforce company safety policies

  • Read, review, and evaluate projects to bid for risk, schedule, chance of success and profitability

  • Reviews plans and specifications to determine scope and resources necessary to complete the proposal

  • Develop a complete and accurate bid proposal including quantity take-off, crew composition, material, and subcontractor pricing

  • Compare bid pricing to historical data

  • Lead a team of estimators on large or complex projects

  • Develop a project D/M/WBE subcontracting plan

  • The complete preparation of bid documents

  • Help prepare post bid documentation for award

  • Prepare the project budget

  • Represent the company in communications with the owner, engineer, suppliers and subcontractors

  • Develop and manage project documentation

  • Visit project sites to observe construction methods

  • Communicate and reinforce the company vision, values and goals.

  • Perform a variety of tasks that will include having to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods of time, stretch, walk, climb, and bend under potentially adverse field conditions and be able to perform visual tasks such as back up spotting and be able to hear and react to back up alarms, per safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in bridge and/or heavy highway construction estimating and/or project management

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role

  • A record of successfully estimating bridge/heavy civil construction between $5M and $40M

  • Experience with alternate project delivery methods such as Design Build and/or CM/GC

  • Have a working knowledge of means and methods, crew composition, and production rates for bridge/structure, roadway, sitework and utility construction

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and CPM scheduling software

  • The ability to work with and lead a team to bid projects within stated deadlines

  • The ability to win work with private owners/engineers by offering the best value within their budget

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or reliable transportation to report to work on time

Base salary range:

Estimator III

$90,000-$130,000

Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, overtime when applicable, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
