Job Summary:

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for design, testing, and implementation of improvements for New Products and Sustainment Projects for large gimbal manufacturing and production. Working closely with the Product Design Engineering team this role acts as an internal and external facing Designer. The Mechanical Design Engineer maintains a deep knowledge of customer environments and system interaction, helping ensure predictable and consistent product performance. Positioned close to the customer, engineering, manufacturing and service, this role supports a tight feedback loop resulting in exceeded expectations for new products and custom installations.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and implement cost-effective cable and installation designs to integrators and end customers.

  • Provide detailed analysis and recommendations on configurations to the Sales & Applications Installations group, acts as first line of response and may lead customer interaction escalations and requests from Sales or Service.

  • Provide surge capacity and may take on stretch assignments (Requests for Engineering Assistance/REAs) supporting engineering efforts for product design engineering groups.

  • Participate and may lead in design validation testing, reliability studies, test documentation, new process development, Design/Process FMEAs (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis) as part of the New Product Development & Launch Process.

  • Complete sustaining product design, testing, and implementation projects to create cost savings, resolve obsolescence issues, improve product reliability, evaluate part drawings for Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and provide ongoing Value Analysis Value Engineering for New Product Development.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical field strongly preferred, or equivalent experience relevant to manufacturing/mechanical design.

  • 5-7+ years of mechanical engineering experience, cabling design experience strongly preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, and software systems.

  • Proficient with 3D & 2D Modeling Software (Solidworks & AutoCAD).

  • Working knowledge of GD&T and strong drafting skills .

  • Effective verbal and written communications, with presentation skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work both independently and with diverse groups.

  • Experience with agile / project management tools a plus.
