GE Vernova Senior Quality Engineer – Natrium Fuel Facility in Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Description Summary

The Senior Quality Engineer for the Natrium Fuel Facility is responsible for stewardship of the entirety of quality development for the Natrium facility equipment and processes, including quality activities related to new materials development programs, qualification or integration of the material suppliers, and development of manufacturing equipment qualification plans.

Roles and Responsibilities

As the Natrium Fuel Facility Senior Quality Engineer, you will:

  • Perform/Analyze manufacturing process capability studies. Support New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives, including quality process development and design of experiments (DOE).

  • Identify and implement proactive solutions for quality process analysis through use of statistical techniques, Lean and Six Sigma tools.

  • Develop quality inspection and documentation protocols, plans and procedures during the transition to production activities. Ensure product manufacturing can proceed, in compliance with our business quality plan.

  • Work closely with Sourcing, Business teams, Manufacturing, and engineering to eliminate roadblocks and communication barriers that may affect quality requirements

  • Write and review technical quality documentation plans and procedures.

  • Provide technical guidance to suppliers toward assuring product/process compliance with engineering specifications. Resolve capability, tolerancing, and materials related quality issues.

  • Perform In-process supplier oversight activities, such as Supplier document processing, Quality review and approval of Purchase Order, Supplier Surveillances, and maintenance of the Approved Supplier List, as necessary.

  • Coordinate with shop manufacturing operations the implementation of a system for material traceability, manufacturing quality plans, inspection methods and procedures for manufacturing quality control activities.

  • Participate in internal and external audits, including direct interaction with customers and suppliers.

  • Interface with a variety of individuals with diverse backgrounds, including internal and external stakeholders.

  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) from a regionally accredited college, university, or equivalent

  • Minimum of five (7) years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, or quality functions with demonstrated technical aptitude

  • Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated familiarity with, 10CFR50 Appendix B or ISO-9000 requirements.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability to use computers. Frequent use of computer equipment.

  • Ability and willingness to work onsite at the Wilmington, NC Nuclear Fuel Manufacturing facility.

  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel (up to 20%) to supplier and customer sites as needed.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical Master’s degree

  • Nuclear power industry experience

  • Experience with Quality qualification processes. Experience generating inspection and testing procedures based on engineering design drawings and specifications.

  • Prior experience with procurement of resources for large-scale projects in the Energy sector

  • Previous or Current Lead Auditor certification

  • Ability to work in cross-functional team environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once

  • Self-starter possessing strong initiative and teamwork

  • Strong mechanical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical processes)

  • Manufacturing and/or quality engineering experience including product development for nuclear fuel manufacturing, metallurgy and/or machining processes

  • Understanding of quality measurement metrology and product design engineering.

  • Experience with materials, machining or welding technology.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills particularly technical writing, with the ability to interface effectively at all levels of the organization

  • Practical experience with lean manufacturing principles and tools, identifying opportunities for and designing changes to processes. Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing certification.

  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)
