Valero Instrument Engineer in WILMINGTON, California

Description:
* Provides technical expertise for the specification, design, purchase, installation and commissioning of instrument and electrical systems, including low, medium and high voltage electrical systems, electronic and pneumatic instrumentation, control systems, field instrumentation, analyzers and emergency shutdown systems.
* Advocates for the designing, developing, implementation, and maintaining of the instruments and instrument systems across the refinery. * Perform engineering calculations, prepare technical drawings, and generate documentation for instrument specifications, loop diagrams, and controls narratives. * Develops detailed instrument/electrical engineering design documents, procures equipment and materials, coordinates construction contracting, and provides technical support to construction and startup personnel. * Provide overall technical guidance to design, develop, specify, and oversee the installation of instrumentation systems. * Develops, implements, and coordinates instrument reliability improvement efforts, processes and systems, such as: Bad Actor program, developing and overseeing Preventive Maintenance Plans, Criticality Analysis, SIS and associated metrics. * Develops, implements, and manages instrument safe work practices, maintenance procedures, testing procedures, preventive maintenance plans and engineering standards and specifications Develops Instrument Index and Datasheets in SPI. * Leads or participates in root cause analysis of instrument and shutdown system failures. * Maintains SPI (INtools) and SAP documentation systems and associated evergreen processes for the instrument asset base across the plant. * Leads and assists PHA & MOC’s related to Instruments and shutdown systems. * Assists in the selection, procurement, and testing of instruments. * Participates actively in the development, design, FAT, SAT and commissioning of new PLC, Triconex, DCS and CIS systems or modifications to existing systems. * Evaluates, designs, specifies and makes cost estimates, to prepare and submit project AFEs. * Provides contractor supervision to ensure that capital and expense projects are completed accurately and efficiently. * Monitors and directs activities of engineering and construction contractors for progress and quality to ensure compliance to company and industry standards. * Provides ongoing technical support to operations and maintenance departments on instrumentation, electrical and control system problems. * Follows all safety rules and guidelines as established by the Refinery.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

The [salary range] [rate] for this position is $100,880 to $138,710 and represents Valero’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of expected compensation at the time of this posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of job-related factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Engineering required. * Two years of engineering experience in all phases of instrument/electrical systems design and installation required. * Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred. * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (P&IDs, loop drawings, relay logic) preferred. * Certified Functional Safety Expert certification preferred. * Refinery unit process understanding preferred. * Experience with SPI preferred. * Working knowledge of SAP preferred.
