       Position DescriptionInstruct students in the specific area of specialty; help students learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development to meet high expectations; communicate with parents; create a classroom environment conducive to learning; and participate in professional learning. Windham Public Schools is a welcoming learning environment where all students are prepared for college and careers.   • Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility

  • Ensures the safety of students

  • Implements the Windham Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives

  • Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment.

  • Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom

  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required

  • Assess student learning on a continual basis and identify areas of intervention if needed

  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Windham Board of Education

  • Maintains respect for confidential information

  • Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed

  • Design clear and specific learning assessments.

  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner.

  • Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents

  • Other duties as assigned by the Administrator and/or Superintendent

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Active Special Education Teaching Certification (165) CDE required

  • Experience working with students with autism preferred

  • IEP data collection knowledge

  • Working knowledge of CT-SEDs, preferred

  • Elementary school special education experience preferred

Qualifications/Certificates:

  • Bilingual(Spanish/English) preferred.

  • Bachelor's Degree required.

  • Must be able to work with a diverse population

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to foster and facilitate learning and classroom management

  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Effective, active listening skills

  • Ability to work effectively with others
