Geisinger CT Simulation Technologist in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

Participates in training activities to become proficient in the CT Simulation Technologists duties and responsibilities. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in assigned clinical area.

Job Duties

  • Simulates new patients with the aid of the physician.

  • Takes simulation set up photograph and tattoos approved isocenter.

  • Records all information needed for reliable reproduction on CT simulation set up sheet in our patient management information system.

  • Reviews the physician simulation orders.

  • Explains procedures and answers patient questions.

  • Schedules treatments.

  • Prepares patient contours using generally established methods including CT scans or MR images.

  • With radiation oncologist, locates on the patient contour any points of significance and, within the contour, all significant tumor and organ outlines.

  • Outlines critical structures, normal structures and possible tumor volumes on the treatment planning workstation under the direction of the oncologist and dosimetrist.

  • Utilizes diagnostic studies such as Cat Scans, PET and CT scans and MRI's for the purpose of location of tumor volume and or sensitive organs.

  • Records all treatment plan data with respect to all parameters for all fields on the appropriate form in our patient management system.

  • Submits billing for simulation services in a timely manner and insures proper documentation is complete.

  • Performs equipment warm-up procedures for CAT scanner machines and accessories.

  • Informs proper personnel of equipment malfunctions.

  • Performs quality control tests of CAT Scanner.

  • Immediately notifies Chief Radiation Therapist or senior physicist of irregularities.

  • Performs venous access on patients by request of nursing staff for administration of IV contrast.

  • Utilizes PACS to transfer diagnostic data from diagnostic CT scans, MRI, and PET and CT scans to treatment planning system.

  • Performs fusion or registration of diagnostic radiology exams to simulation CT images to enhance visualization of the treatment volume and critical structures.

  • Assist the radiation oncologist, physicist and neurosurgeon in scanning, fusion, and contouring on treatment planning system.

  • Accomplishes beam modifying devices.

  • Cuts and constructs shielding blocks.

  • Utilizes other treatment devices.

Position Details

  • Hours: M - F 7:30AM-4:00PM

  • Required Experience: 1 year related experience & ARRT certification.

  • Preferred Experience: CT Certification Preferred
