Job Overview:

General Description includes complex mechanical engineering design, analysis and development of an assigned scope of work in a CB&I project and/or specific complex deliverables such as pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment, rotating equipment and piping engineering. Work includes, among other things, conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, design calculations, specification development and supervising vendor packages for equipment and mechanical systems. Is able to effectively communicate complex technical solutions and concepts to other engineers and non-engineers. Assists with training other engineers by providing instruction on new technologies and/or a specialization. Supports the development of new technologies and methods. Maintains and promotes a focus on CB&I’s end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction. Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines. Can be assigned overall mechanical lead for projects, departmental or project mechanical sub-discipline section lead/ supervisor or deputy/assistance to mechanical department manager.

Mechanical sub-disciplines are rotating and packaged equipment, fixed equipment including vessels and heat transfer equipment. Specialty engineering including painting, insulation, fireproofing, noise, welding and CFD/FEA.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Apply comprehensive knowledge to prepare and supervise the development of key project deliverables, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Specifications and Datasheets reviews

  • Equipment material requisition reviews

  • Technical bid evaluations reviews

  • Complex Equipment testing

  • Conceptual studies and calculations

  • Cost and planning studies

  • Projects’ IDR’s and PEAR reviews

  • Staffing, execution and MOPEX plans

  • Lead Project Development and Coordination, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Maintain and promote a focus on McDermott’s end-product throughout engineering, fabrication or construction

  • Function as Mechanical engineering project lead or task lead

  • Become fully familiar with the project contract, scope of work, basis of design, specifications, schedule and all inter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issues

  • Report to project engineering manager, project manager, and Mechanical department manager/deputy

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Accredited engineering degree may be required by specific regions

  • Minimum 15 years of detailed Mechanical engineering experience, including 10 years in the oil & gas industry, 3 years of which must have been as a Principal Mechanical Engineer

  • Must have served as the Lead Engineer on at least one mid to large size project ($500 Million +) with very strong background in Onshore, Offshore and Upstream work

  • Comprehensive knowledge of design techniques, analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the theory, content and application of standards, codes and guidelines

  • Exceptional project coordination and execution skills

  • In-depth technical knowledge of the detailed design engineering process

  • Recognized as a key lead, highly innovative designer, or highly skilled analyst

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Prefer to have a BSME degree

  • Prefer PE certificate of registration

  • Prefer experience at the site during construction and commissioning
