The Emergency Medical Technician provides patient care in accordance with KBEMS regulations and Sedgwick County EMS Protocols. Emergency Medical Technicians will work under direct supervision of a full time; non-probationary Sedgwick County EMS Paramedic to provide emergency care in accordance with protocol. EMTs will provide safe transportation to and from health care facilities, as well as, transfer of care to persons with equal or higher level of care.

Quality out of Hospital Health Care

  • Provides basic life support and emergency care in accordance with both KBEMS regulations and Sedgwick County approved protocols
  • Establishes a cohesive and productive working environment to enhance overall patient care
  • Maintains a safe work environment to minimize risk of injury
  • Determines most effective method of transport to and from health care facilities
  • Coordinates care with receiving facilities of situation in a timely manner
  • Provides verbal reports and transfers care to persons with equal or higher level training

Documentation

  • Maintains accurate and complete electronic reports pertaining to patient care
  • Maintains accurate and complete Physician Certification Statement forms
  • Maintains accurate and complete vehicle maintenance, automobile condition, equipment condition, and facility condition electronic reports.
  • Complies with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations to include HIPAA

Operational Readiness

  • Maintains readiness to respond to emergencies during an assigned shift
  • Maintains vehicle, equipment, and station activities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
  • Notifies immediate supervisor of any found deficiencies that impact normal operations
  • Responds to emergent/non-emergent calls in a safe manner minimizing risk to crew and public
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of the role, capabilities, and responsibilities of an EMT

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. One year experience in Emergency Medical Care or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities. State of Kansas Drivers License and State of Kansas EMT Certification

Preferred Qualifications: Associates degree from an accredited college or university. One year of experience as an EMT
