Nexstar Media Group Morning Executive Producer in Wichita, Kansas

KSN is looking for a morning executive producer to join our team! As a key newsroom manager, you must have a proven track record as a newscast producer, strong leadership skills, excellent news judgement and the ability to showcase news content across all media platforms. We are looking for someone to lead a strong team, bringing creativity, urgency and a focus on details to our morning show.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing 2.5-hour morning newscast, including co-producing and writing

  • Assist other managers in coordinating coverage for other newscasts, taking on special projects when needed

  • Responsible for evaluating stories; organizing them into a cohesive sequence within a newscast or digital content for the web

  • Provide regular feedback on newscasts with staff, both as a team and individually

  • Manage newsroom during assigned shifts, contributing to the editorial process and make solid decisions in breaking news situations

  • Execute strategies that engage and grow audiences across all media devices

  • Rotate as weekend on-call manager

  • Coordinate schedules and logistics with News Director and other news managers

  • Define strategic direction for content coverage to meet business and financial objectives

    Requirements & Skills:

  • Journalism or Communications degree, TV/film or the equivalent

  • Prefer experience in an executive producer or senior producer role; minimum 3 years’ experience as producer

  • Must be able to interact well with multi-media journalists, anchors, videographers, news managers, production, digital, promotions and engineering staff

  • Extreme attention to detail required

  • Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills

  • Fluent in English, bilingual in Spanish a plus

  • Proficiency in ENPS, WordPress, AP style and the ability to learn new technology independently and quickly

  • Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations

  • Utilize all required television technology

  • Available to work flexible schedule

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: High stress office environment with deadline pressures. Position will require day-to-day multi-tasking, as well as managing multiple projects simultaneously with frequent change in direction and priority. Some travel may be required. As needed, must be willing to work weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), overnights/early mornings, nights, and holidays.

    The employee in this position must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, work near others, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
