Newell Brands Automation Technician Apprentice in Wichita, Kansas

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The purpose of this role is to temporarily fill the Automation Technician role until a qualified candidate is hired. Those filling the interim role may be considered for the permanent Automation Technician role if they exhibit the following characteristics:

· Proactive in learning required skills

· Works well with others and demonstrates a team player characteristic

· Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot problems and consistently restart automation stoppages

· Works safely and follows all lock out procedures

· Completes job responsibilities listed below

Those filling the interim role will be assessed after 45 days on the job. At that time the Leader of Automation Engineering will determine if the interim assignment will be extended. This will also be an opportunity for those filling the interim role to return to their previous job if they so choose.

The interim Automation Technician’s primary responsibility is to ensure automated cells run safely and efficiently. This will require the ability to troubleshoot equipment problems. In this role the Interim Automation Technician will be the on-shift automation expert. They will be required to work independently to identify and resolve problems, while working closely with manufacturing team leads and other technical personnel to keep the automated equipment operating.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Service lids when out rack is full and service driver not available

  • Service lids when in rack runs empty and service driver not available

  • Document control (fill in down time and scrap sheet)

  • Respond promptly to downtime calls on robot cells

  • Troubleshoot the robots and other automated equipment

  • Call maintenance for assistance when necessary

  • Take detailed notes of problems encountered and how resolved (include photos if possible)

  • Monitor the automated lines and look for ways to improve processes (Is there slow or jerky robot motion? Are the robots making what seem to be unnecessary moves? Where can we speed up or improve robot motion? Etc.)

  • Make minor adjustments to robot programs

  • Get online with PLC to troubleshoot line stoppages

  • Attend recommended training classes

  • Provide detailed daily report outs to Tom Hurst

  • Cleaning/maintaining the automated lid foam areas

  • Perform Daily/Weekly/Monthly preventative maintenance

  • Support all safety initiatives including adherence to safety practices and policies

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

· Forklift certified

· Lockout tag out certified

· Troubleshooting skills

· Robotics training (provided by supervisor)
