Newman University has three open positions for Full-time Nursing Professors with individual focuses in fundamentals, mental health/community, and pediatrics.\ \ Occupational Summary:

Undergraduate nursing faculty members lead course instruction in didactic and clinical areas across the curriculum per the discretion of the Director of Nursing and Dean of the School of Healthcare Profession. As a member of the nursing faculty, individuals will be expected to actively participate in student advising and mentoring, student recruitment and retention efforts, ongoing professional development, curricular development and revision, maintaining accreditation and NCLEX pass rates, university service, and engagement with campus and community partners.

Faculty members contribute to the effectiveness of the University by working collaboratively on instructional policy, curriculum development, and staff development. They are models of educated persons, exemplifying the virtues they seek to inspire in students, including curiosity, tolerance, honesty, fairness, and respect for diversity.

Stewardship Statement:\ This position is responsible for cultivating and maintaining the institution\'s Catholic identity and its mission to empower graduates to transform society. As a member of the Newman community, the staff member will join with the institution\'s sponsors, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC Sisters), to witness God\'s love in Mission to empower others, foster oneness, celebrate life, form right relationships, and walk as compassionate companions. Additionally, this position contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other faiths, cultures, or backgrounds.

Work Performed:

  1. Development and maintaining didactic and clinical education content for assigned courses.
  2. Integrating mission values and the Strategic Plan of the University within individual courses and academic programs.
  3. Creating and maintaining an optimal learning environment that attracts and retains students.
  4. Teaching assigned classes effectively and assessing educational outcomes appropriately.
  5. Maintaining high standards as teachers and engaging students in classroom, studio, laboratory, clinical educational settings, and co-curricular activities.
  6. Maintaining high standards as scholars and demonstrating competency in their fields through both academic pursuits and professional involvement.
  7. Advising and mentoring students effectively.
  8. Maintaining a minimum of five (5) office hours per week and posting specific hours on the office door.
  9. Participating in collaborative governance of the University through involvement in department, school, and faculty meetings, and by serving on department, School, University, and faculty committees.
  10. Representing the University through service on campus and in the larger community.
  11. Participating in Fall and Winter Institute, Convocations, Baccalaureate services, and Commencement exercises.
  12. Assisting the Library Director in curriculum-driven collection development and by promoting library involvement among students.
  13. Promoting the use of information technology through instructional activities and class assignments.
  14. Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  1. Doctorate in nursing preferred, or master\'s in nursing required from an accredited institution. Nursing background related to the specialty area of teaching is required.
  2. Three years of professional nursing experience in the clinical environment with exposure to direct patient care.
  3. Experience in didactic and clinical education preferred.
  4. Must hold a current Kansas professional nursing license or ability to obtain a license within 60 days of hire.
  5. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
