  • Holds an associate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Is capable of tutoring adults in one or more college-level subject areas such as writing, math, natural sciences, business, education, or other discipline offered at Southeastern.
  • Is proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Outlook, One Drive, and Excel.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Has the ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Is committed to the community college open door philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept.
  • Is willing to work irregular hours as needed.
  1. Holds a Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Has experience in teaching or tutoring.

Under the supervision of the Dean of Student Learning and Innovation, the Tutor Coordinator is responsible for directing all activities related to tutoring services. Working cooperatively with faculty and staff, the Coordinatorperforms a variety of detailed tasks related to recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising tutors and the oversight and reporting functions of the tutoring program at SCC.

To fulfill the objectives of this position, the Tutor Coordinator performs the following functions:

  • Communicates with faculty concerning the academic needs of students.
  • Matches and assigns students and tutors.
  • Obtains and maintains required documentation and records.
  • Tracks tutoring hours each month and reports semester totals to the Information Administrator.
  • Creates and implements a plan to promote the services of the Tutoring Program across campus.
  • Tracks expenses and recommends budget needs and budget adjustments for the Tutoring Program.
  • Hires and supervises tutoring staff -- both professional, faculty, and peer.
  • Plans and conducts required tutor training sessions.
  • Fulfills reporting obligations as communicated by the Information Administrator.
  • Adheres to the requirements of State Board Code as related to tutoring programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A completed Southeastern Community College application form, a resume, letter of interest and educational transcripts (unofficial copies of transcripts will be sufficient for the screening process, but official copies must be submitted prior to employment) must be submitted to the college Human Resources Office in order for applicants to be considered for this position.
