Howmet Aerospace Machine Learning Project Manager in Whitehall, Michigan

Howmet Aerospace is hiring a Machine Learning Project Manager. You will be part of a high-performance multidisciplinary R&D team to advance the state-of-the-art in aerospace manufacturing at our casting, alloy, core and rings facilities. This position is in our Howmet Research Center Manufacturing Technologies group and will support project management and implementation of machine learning at our facilities. Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Lead projects to implement machine learning capabilities into production

  • Assist engineers and data scientists with development of machine learning applications that will be validated, designed, constructed and implemented in production environment

  • Support engineering and manufacturing teams with deployment of machine learning systems

  • Document a set of robust best-practices for machine learning systems and applications

  • Build close relationships with internal customers to understand the challenges they face and to design effective solutions

  • Maintain a current understanding of the state-of-the-art machine learning tools and techniques

  • Balance multiple projects, with a variety of stakeholders, to ensure timely delivery of critical solutions

  • Share results with others at all levels of the organization and act as change agent to drive continuous growth and advancement

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

  • 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment

  • Strong project management and communication skills

  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner as well as in a team environment, balance multiple projects, and prioritize commitments

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to communicate at all levels of an organization

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States (Visa sponsorship is not available for this position)

  • Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD degree from an accredited institution in one of the following disciplines:, Computer Science, Engineering, , or related field

  • 5+ years of experience in developing, designing and constructing machine learning systems

  • 2+ years experience of project management

  • Demonstrated skills in solving complex issues using analytical tools, designed experiments (DMAIC process), and analysis of results

  • Advanced knowledge of state-of-the-art machine learning concepts

  • Experience with non-destructive testing methods (visual, FPI, x-ray, ultrasonic)

  • Experience in investment casting processes

  • Mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of investment casting materials (polymers, ceramics, and metals)
