Summary

The Senior Enterprise Risk Specialist supports the development, implementation, continuous improvement and reporting for the NYPA Risk management function. The individual contributes by performing on-going risk identification, assessment, response, monitoring, and reporting of the material risks and events associated with NYPA and Canals business processes (e.g., enterprise risk drivers, project risks, operational risks, asset risks, etc.). This position supports efforts, as directed by the Senior Manager of Enterprise Risk Management, in areas such as risk register development and completion, risk appetite management, executive level report preparation, and key risk metric reporting. The Senior Enterprise Risk Specialist also provides risk representation and interaction with other business units, Enterprise Governance, Risk, and Compliance (EGRC) System guidance, policy and procedure management, and risk management training.#LI-CJ1

Responsibilities

  • Support the Enterprise and/or Operational Risk team in working with management and staff to facilitate the Enterprise and/or Operational Risk process for risk identification, definition, assessment, analysis, mitigation, and monitoring throughout

  • Update and establish risk registers for enterprise risks and projects that may have significant impacts on the organization

  • Develop (as needed) standard and custom risk reports for various levels of the organization including the Executive Risk and Resilience Management Committee (ERRMC), Executive Management Committee (EMC), and the Board of Trustees

  • Lead the ongoing development and reporting of Key Risk Indicators for enterprise risks

  • Facilitate the development, implementation, maintenance, and management of Enterprise and/or Operational Risk policies, supporting procedures, and frameworks

  • Provide support on the implementation and on-going operation of the Enterprise Governance, Risk, and Compliance (EGRC) software module specific to the EORM program

  • Support the EORM Team in the development of training materials and assist in conducting EORM education/training to various levels of Business Units management and staff

  • Aid effective alignment of the enterprise and operational processes with Internal Audit, Business Controls, Compliance, and the Strategy Office

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of various types of risk including, Market Risk, Operational Risk, Credit Risk, Liquidity Risk, Financial Instrument Risk

  • Strong knowledge of Enterprise-wide Risk management program development and implementation including best practices, frameworks, and associated software systems

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, multi-task, and meet established deadlines consistently

  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and/or statistical analysis packages, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Visio

  • Must have excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prepare and deliver clear and concise summary and insight.

  • Thorough Familiarity with established EORM frameworks (e.g., COSO, ISO31000) and their practical applications

  • Strong knowledge of Enterprise and Operational Risk Management best practices as they apply to the energy/utility industry

  • Strong understanding of NYPA’s generating and transmission facilities

  • Strong understanding of the NYISO energy marketplace

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or another related field preferred

  • A minimum of 6 years direct or indirect experience relevant to the risk management arena including areas such as risk analysis, dashboard reporting, integration of business processes and development/implementation of risk programs (preferably an EGRC system)

Physical Requirements

  • Flexibility to work overtime, as needed, will be required

  • Valid US driver’s license

  • Ability to travel within NYS (up to 25%)

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $95,440-$131,230. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
