The anticipated salary range for this role is between $161,000.00 and $205,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The Director, Enterprise Data Steward, is a critical role reporting to the Head of Enterprise Data Governance & transformation within Chief Data Officer led Information Control Department as part of the overall business Data Strategy for SMBC Americas Division. This experienced Data Management leader will drive the governance of data throughout the AD Enterprise. This collaborative leader will also be responsible to work across ICDAD Data Management Executives, Local Data Officers, Data Stewards and Data Owners to properly govern data, ensuring consistent use throughout the organization.

Role Objectives

As part of the Enterprise Data Governance & Transformation, this leader will own the operational processes for implementation of and compliance with our Data Governance Policy, KDE Standards including but not limited to:

1) Leading a matrix community of stakeholders across all branches, Group Companies and Corporate functional team to ensure all Key Data Elements (KDEs) capture mandatory business & technical metadata per framework and policy

2) Evaluating KDE definitions and attributes in our data glossary, including Authoritative Source identification

4) Support the Enterprise Data Stewardship Council and coordinate sub-working groups as needed for formal compliance with Standards

5) Provide expertise and in partnership with LDOs, Data Management Executives, Data Stewards and Data Owners, for all KDEs

6) Implement new and improve existing processes to ensure compliance with standards is auditable, measurable and reportable

7) Ensure Business Stewards document Data Quality Controls for KDEs

8) Lead a monthly KDEs onboarding prioritization forum with the Enterprise Domain Manager Executives to agree on scope of monthly book of work.

9) Lead review of monthly Integrity Reports exceptions and facilitating remediation with Community Managers and Data Stewards.

10) Lead capture, analysis and reporting of Oversight Metrics to identify areas of improvement as part of the KDE Onboarding process.

11) Responsible for the Business glossary maintenance and integrity within the data Governance platform (Collibra)

1) Ensure global alignment of KDE framework and usage of the KDE onboarding template

13) Capture and report on KDEs related metrics

14) Partner and coordinate with Collibra Platform Manager on analysis and understanding of the impact to the KDE Onboarding templates/processes with Collibra enhancement releases.

15) Ensure and develop training materials, documentation a needed

16) Provide Business Glossary training and presentations to key internal stakeholders/teams

17) Support data stewards to establish Parent / Child relationship in the Americas Divisional Glossary

18) Lead Business glossary cleanup to ensure proper metadata are captured including Data Domains assignments and adherence to the KDE Framework.

Qualifications and Skills

Must have prior experience with Business Data Glossary, including KDE onboarding processes and an understanding of Data Governance best practices

1) Significant operational experience with hands-on leadership of Data Governance processes

2) Expert Knowledge of Data Stewardship and Data Governance practices

3) Functional Knowledge of Data Governance tools, preferably Collibra

4) Tangible experience requiring leadership and people skills to enable positive engagement across a broad organizational landscape

5) High level of Program and Project Management experience with data and technology centric initiatives

6) Great written, verbal communication and presentation skills

7) Significant experience in KDEs onboarding effort, definitions creation/ evaluation and metadata capture

8) Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and stakeholders under pressure

9) Strong team player with excellent listening, interpersonal, facilitation, written, oral and communication skills; ability to effectively communicate concepts in both technical and user-friendly language to management, peers, staff, and other employees so that issues and solutions are understood

10) Have a results-oriented attitude and can lead and drive towards results in an independent yet collaborative manner

11)Experience in SQL queries generation and understanding of relational databases.

12) Strong relationship management and influencing skills to build enduring and productive alliances across matrix organizations. Strong team player with excellent listening, interpersonal, facilitation, written, oral and communication skills; ability to effectively communicate concepts in both technical and user-friendly language to management, peers, staff, and other employees so that issues and solutions are understood.

13) Demonstrated ability to work independently and successfully manage multiple priorities and stakeholders under pressure

14) Proven skills in MS Office suite, MS Excel and MS Project and Powerpoint

15) Strong team player with excellent listening, interpersonal, facilitation, written, oral and communication skills; ability to effectively communicate concepts in both technical and user-friendly language to management, peers, staff, and other employees so that issues and solutions are understood

16) Analytical, flexible, team-oriented player with excellent listening, interpersonal, facilitation and written communication skills. Ability to work in a cross-functional, fast paced environment under pressure.

17) Ability to work with little or no supervision and proven ability to meet established deadlines with demonstrated ability successfully manage multiple priorities and stakeholders under pressure
