Quality Manager

Whippany Actuation Systems is looking for a dynamic leader with extensive AS9100 and AS9110 knowledge to oversee our highly skilled team of Quality Engineers and Quality Inspectors to support existing production, new product development and aftermarket repair of aerospace actuation products. In this role you will have significant responsibility with internal teams, external customers, air framer, and regulatory authorities. In this role, you would typically:
  • Plan, organize, implement, and direct Quality and Test team members and material resources to assure delivery of products and services that fulfills the customer's needs and expectations
  • Establish Quality goals, work plans, and budgets such that lowest cost and highest quality results are achieved
  • Assure that business activities comply with all applicable government regulations and contract requirements
  • Assure audit of areas of responsibility for conformance to quality plans, systems, and requirements
  • Direct company actions to maintain and renew AS9100 and AS9110 certifications
  • Serve as the Management Representative for all Quality audits and inspections
  • Provide quality plans and metrics to monitor and report division results
  • Direct process/product improvement programs and provide process method excellence throughout the organization
  • Identify relevant quality-related training needs and develop methods to deliver this training
  • Develop a work environment that fosters open and honest communications to continuously instill confidence and credibility by actively engaging the workforce
  • Select, hire, train, and provide ongoing leadership of assigned personnel to meet objectives and organizational goals
  • Recruit, manage, motivate, and develop staff in assigned area to ensure individual and team effectiveness

We require:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or a science-related field from an accredited university or college
  • 5 years' experience within a highly regulated environment
  • Prior experience in a leadership role to cross-functional teams
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Eligibility for any required authorizations from the US government, to conform with US export regulations and ITAR 120.15 and EAR Part 772.

Eligibility Requirements:

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. Whippany Actuation Systems will require proof of status before employment.

We would really like to see:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering preferred
  • Extensive working knowledge/experience of AS9100, AS9110 and/or ISO9001
  • Working knowledge of DO178 and DO254 standard requirements
  • Additional leadership experience in the areas of Operations or Manufacturing is preferred
  • Bias for action. Ability to spontaneously recognize problems and opportunities. Ability to drive problem resolution and follow through to completions.
  • Results oriented. Drives to achieve both short- and long-term goals.
  • Customer focused. Driven to meet the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Must be a "hands-on" type of leader, able to interface on the shop floor, along with senior leadership and customers - all equally well.
  • Expertise in Quality Control concepts and their application
  • Ability to develop a strong network of relationships both internally and externally
  • Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) professionally to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies
  • High degree of professionalism, detail orientation, high productivity, flexibility, and enthusiasm
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or other Quality certification

  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
  • Requires repetitive movement
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
