Essex County Soil and Water Conservation District Conservation District Technician (FT) in Westport, New York

Conservation District Technician (FT) - Provisional Appointment*

The work involves responsibility for performing a variety of technical duties related to the establishment of conservation practices concerning land and water on the public and private properties. This is technical work involving responsibility for assisting the Conservation District Manager in field surveys, design, and supervision of conservation projects. Employees in this class are expected to assist directly in various projects such as tree planting, streams restoration and related soil and water management programs. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Conservation District Manager. The incumbent does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications: 1) Possession of an Associate's Degree in Natural Resources Conservation, Engineering, Forestry, Fish and Wildlife, Agricultural Science, Agronomy or closely related field; OR 2) Graduation from High School or possession of a High School Equivalency Diploma and 3 years' experience in Soil and Water Conservation or closely related field; OR 3) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (1) and (2) above.

Additional Information: Qualified candidates will be subject to a Civil Service Examination to be announced at a later date. Applications will be accepted until the closing date for the examination. Persons seeking employment with Essex County shall be required to submit to a drug and alcohol screening/testing, pre-employment physical and additionally may be required to a fingerprint background check, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

*The term Provisional Appointment means that you will be required to take the next Civil Service examination for this title and place among the top 3 candidates on the examination list in order to be eligible for permanent appointment.
