Amazon Software Development Engineer, Hardware Test Engineering in Westborough, Massachusetts

Description

Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated Software Development Engineer who will be part of the Hardware Test Engineering team focused on next generation robotic system design. The software development engineer will develop along the critical path for the HWTE team, creating a framework that enables automation of test workflows. The developer will plan, design, review, and support the implementation of new software capabilities. You will be responsible for leading and developing automation strategies and solutions for new products, with a focus on test overhead, cycle time reduction, and improving product quality. You will actively work with hardware development, regulatory & compliance, program management, and other hardware test team members.

The ideal candidate will draw upon previous software development experience, critical thinking, and problem solving skills, and a passion for creating reliable and maintainable systems. The candidate should be open to new challenges, strong at multi-tasking, innovative, creative, self-directed and a great team player. Candidate should drive continuous process improvement, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to solve problems and implement new solutions.

Key job responsibilities

You will work with your stakeholders to define requirements, identify common use-cases, and work toward the goal of reducing test overhead.

You will define interfaces for engineers to interact with existing workcells, enabling a self-service model of creation, maintenance, and data collection.

You will coordinate with cross-functional teams, ensuring that hardware components, software, and infrastructure provide the functionality required by the business.

You will develop organized, extensible, and maintainable code, break down development needs into achievable tasks, and providing support to junior developers.

You will continually refine best practices and documentation, driving continuous improvement, and developing strategies for expanded automation.

A day in the life

On a typical day, you will collaborate with test engineers and stakeholders to opportunities to automate new and existing test plans.

You'll become a subject matter expert for Amazon Robotics automated test infrastructure; you are quickly able to brainstorm potential automated approaches to test workflows.

You will be responsible for identifying future features and improvments, and developing metrics and alarming to reduce downtime.

You will provide operational support directly contributing to AR’s remarkable growth. Your success will be both measurable and visible.

About the team

Amazon Robotics (AR) Hardware Test (HWTE) enhances the Amazon customer experience by enabling rapid robotic system development, seeding both quality and reliability through targeted value based verification and reliability testing.

We work with the latest-and-greatest robotic solutions, starting at the early prototype phase.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • 2+ Years of technical experience working with robotic hardware, sensors, or distributed systems

  • 2+ Years of experience developing Linux applications that implement communication via TCP/IP, modbusTCP, or bus other protocols such as CAN

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
