Amazon Senior Manager, Software Dev, Amazon Robotics in Westborough, Massachusetts

Description

Amazon Robotics is creating robots and systems which will be the foundation for the next generation of fulfillment automation. The team is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Software Development to own the software for these new products. This role will lead and support multiple teams working on subsystems ranging from low level robotics to operational tools for production workcells . They will work with internal and external partners in creating solutions deployable at Amazon scale.

Key job responsibilities

  • Define and own the technical strategy in collaboration with customers, stakeholders and partner teams

  • Execute effectively. Deliver predictable results which meet the needs of customers and programs

  • Foster the career development of the team. Leading, coaching, motivating and rewarding the engineers is a critical part of this role.

  • Be deeply involved in architecture and design - lead the team in making high-ambiguity technical decisions and tradeoffs. Proactively manage and mitigate technical risks, particularly integration risks.

  • Design, build, optimize and operate systems for Amazon scale

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

  • 10+ years of experience leading and supporting collaborative software development teams

  • 5+ years of experience developing software for robotics or other hardware systems like medical devices and telecom switches

  • 3+ years of experience operating software at scale

  • Hands-on experience as an engineer. Working knowledge of a programming language, preferably C++ or Java.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of software development processes and best practices

  • Hands-on experience experience building robotic systems as a scientist or software engineer. Ability and willingness to roll up your sleeves and dive as deep as needed.

  • Graduate work in robotics or computer science
