Town of West Springfield Data Specialist (Not Remote) in West Springfield, Massachusetts

DATA SPECIALIST (Not Remote) Description Statement of Duties: The School Data Specialist is the town resource managing the technical aspects of the PowerSchool database and other student data. This position will be the contact point for all data imports/exports and system customizations and will collaborate with WSPS counterparts. Shift: 8am-4:30pm or as assigned by the CTO. Must be available for scheduled and unscheduled flex time outside of scheduled hours. Examples of Duties Responsible for PowerSchool database management, maintenance, retrieval, and report generation in support of education functions. Prepare and maintain technical data integrations within software applications through auto sends and plug-ins. For example, School Messenger, Destiny Follett, PowerSchool SPED. Managing security for all PowerSchool users and user roles. Perform data imports/exports as requested. Responsible for SQL database maintenance and reporting. Manages and maintains all PowerSchool screen and data customizations. Ensure student data is accurately and consistently maintained and troubleshoot inconsistencies. Use data mining to extract information from data sets and identify correlations and patterns. Assessing and implementing new or upgraded software and assisting with strategic decisions on new systems. Helps train end users. Recommend upgrades, patches, new applications and equipment. Serve as backup for state reporting responsibilities Provide support to the Information Technology team when needed. Creates documentation for essential PowerSchool functions. Completes other student/staff data projects as assigned. Any other duties directed by the CTO. Qualifications Education and Experience: Bachelor\'s Degree from an accredited college, preferably in computer science or a technology related field with three to five (3-5) years related work experience. Must have a strong technical expertise in SQL (Structured Query Language), DBA, and Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel formulas), PowerSchool experience preferred. Special Requirements: Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Driver\'s License. Must have a vehicle and ability to drive to remote locations to provide onsite support. Knowledge, Abilities and Skill Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of Structured Query Language, Oracle, common programming and scripting languages, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Data Analytics and Data Visualization; knowledge of web editing, and development, Google Suite, Microsoft Applications, Microsoft Windows 10 & 11. Abilities: Ability to meet and deal with the staff effectively and appropriately; ability to learn, and act as application support for a variety of programs used by the town/schools; ability to respond to technology problems and information requests in a timely and effective manner; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to operate a personal computer and office software; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to maintain, manage, and organize records; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with town/school employees. Skill: Proficient skill in the use of personal computer, Google Apps, and office software including word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications. Experience with gathering, processing and creating visualizations with data. Experience with SQL, Oracle, MS Applications, as well as common programming and scripting languages.
