Annual Salary: $46,138 to $53,414 Based on experience and certification $1,750 w/ Masters Degree

Hours: 7:15 AM - 2:45 PM

    General Responsibilities: To develop a cultural literacy necessary for a competitive adult life. To maintain each student in the alternative school setting. To see each student exit the program with a diploma in hand or return successfully to his/her home school. Instruction in Science and Students With Disabilities in alignment with the NYS learning standards.

    Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction in appropriate academic area.

  • Provide remediation as necessary.

  • Prepare lesson plans and make optimum use of class time to meet stated objectives.

  • Evaluate each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills in academic area of responsibility.

  • Identify pupil needs, and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve attitude, and learning problems.

  • Meet with students in small group setting to discuss school, social and personal concerns.

  • Communicate with parents on individual pupil progress or other areas of concern.

  • Join with other staff members in meeting with parents and students at regularly scheduled grade reporting meetings.

  • Maintain accurate and complete student records.

  • Guide pupils in selection and performance of appropriate activities.

  • Aid in establishing and maintaining standards of pupil conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment.

  • Provide encouragement for continuation of formal education and assistance in employment awareness skills.

  • Supervise pupils in/out of classroom program related activities during the day.

  • Assist in the storage, maintenance and use of materials and property.

  • Requisition books, instructional aids, equipment, tools materials, supplies as required.

  • Attend faculty meetings and participate in advisory committee meetings as requested.

  • Maintain professional growth by participating in workshops, conferences, and advanced coursework as appropriate.

  • Participate in planning and developing Program goals, objectives, curricula, and methods as requested.

  • Complete all required paperwork.

Job Qualifications

  • Must hold valid New York State Teacher Certification in Science 7-12

  • Experience teaching Science and working with students with disabilities preferred
