Aerotek Fleet Mechanic in West Sacramento, California

Forklift Mechanic

Shifts: 6AM - 3PM or 7AM - 4PM

Monday - Friday

OT as needed

Location: Sacramento, CA

Salary: $28 - $36 DOE

Position Overview: The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for repairs and overhauls to forklifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Follow all safety procedures and work as safe as possible at all times.

Examines vehicle and discusses with Fleet Manager nature and extent of damage or malfunction.

• Responsible for repairs and required preventative maintenance on forklifts by analyzing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting problems.

Diagnose mechanical failures and make necessary repairs.

Test repaired equipment for proper performance.

• Accurately and thoroughly completes required paperwork and ensures paperwork is turned in promptly.

• Ensure required parts are in stock.

• Complete all work orders timely.

• Review and attach service request documentation to corresponding work order.

Perform minor repairs, lights, air and electrical lines, and air in tires.

• Perform preventative maintenance services, and general repairs as needed on trailers, to comply with DOT standards.

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on forklifts.

• Raises vehicle with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle.

• Removes unit such as engine, transmission, or differential.

• Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear.

Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings, defective parts, components, or systems. .

Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.

• Rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks .

Rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel.

• Adjusts brakes or replaces shock absorbers.

• Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts.

• Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.

• Trains new employees in shop procedures or practices.

• Maintain a positive work atmosphere and interaction with customers, co-workers, and management.

• All other duties as assigned.

• Regular and punctual attendance.

• Work scheduled shift, weekends, and extended hours as required.

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.) required.

• 1- 3 years of the same or related experience and/or training required.

• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Welding experience required.

Language Skills: English is required.
