U.S. Mint Metal Forming Maching Operator in West Point, New York

Summary This position is a Metal Forming Machine Operator assigned to the West Point Mint, Office of Production. As a Metal Forming Maching Operator, you will be responsible for applying specialized skills, methods, procedures, and techniques to monitor, operate, troubleshoot, adjust, prepare and repair specified and routine sections of complex coin presses, upsetting mills, and other production and support machinery associated with the coin manufacturing industry. Responsibilities As a Metal Forming Maching Operator, you will: Reassemble equipment and perform operational and functional tests such as trial strikes and makes required adjustments in order to ensure proper operation of the press or machine Set and adjust dies in presses to insure precision machine stamping of blanks to produce desired quality, dimension, finish, etc. for precious metal gold, silver, palladium, platinum, and other coins and medals Proof and uncirculated coin production requires frequent cleaning and / or polishing of the dies due to the highly polished finish on the die surface Operate and maintain machines to include startup, adjustment, stopping and other processes on burnishing, tumbling, rinsing and drying equipment and ensures optimal system operations Requirements Conditions of Employment All employees must wear face masks while on MINT property when required by CDC and Federal guidelines. A one year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis, 5 days a week. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis. May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc. Pass a pre-employment physical examination. Incumbents of this position frequently handle objects weighing up to 9 kilograms (35 pounds) and occasionally objects weighing up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds); however, hoists, lifts, and workers are available to assist in moving heavier items. Required to push, pull, reach, walk, stoop, stand, kneel, bend, carry parts, supplies, coins, blanks, trays, packages, tools, etc. Must be able to work in cramped quarters for sustained periods of time and must have sufficient eyesight to do close work and endurance. Hand-eye coordination is required to keep pace with the operation of machines and controls. Operates a forklift. Work requires sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods of time.
