Amentum Electronics Engineer Jr. - Test Control Group in West Palm Beach, Florida

Amentum is currently searching for an Electronics Engineer Jr. - Test Control Group to support the NATO FORACS project in West Palm Beach, FL. The NATO FORACS project's Mission is to provide NATO maritime forces with the opportunity to undergo comprehensive calibration of sensor, weapon, combat, communication, and navigation systems to clearly defined accuracy and performance standards. The project operates under the umbrella of the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC). AUTEC supports Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), and Fleet readiness assessment and training. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport's largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments. Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Security Clearance; US Citizenship is required.

Work may require the independent planning and accomplishment of test support activities, studies of broad scope and complexity, or serving as an expert in the engineer’s assigned responsibilities to support FORACS testing. Complexity of assignments typically requires considerable creativity and judgment to devise approaches to accomplish work, resolve test design and operational problems, and make decisions in situations where standard engineering methods, procedures, and techniques may not be applicable. The candidate will supervise the work of, or be assisted by, other Engineers and Electronic Engineering Technicians. The candidate should be able to provide advice on unusual or controversial problems, review procedures to ensure compliance with testing objectives and as necessary recommend solutions that ensure compliance with project objectives.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Install, operate, and maintain FORACS test support systems and equipment (acoustic target generation systems, radar transponders, EW simulator systems, theodolites, etc.) in a real time environment.

  • Perform standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of operations related to shipboard sensor accuracy testing in a real-time test environment.

  • Adapt procedures and operations as required to meet testing objective in a real-time test environment to meet testing objectives.

  • Develop procedures and operational plans to meet evolving or new test objectives.

  • Manage the organizations preventative maintenance system on equipment and systems used during FORACS testing.

  • Troubleshoot and perform corrective maintenance on equipment and systems to LRU.

  • Prepares required test support documentation; operates test support equipment, and records test data.

  • Report deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors.

  • Support engineering changes, prepare documentation, perform equipment modifications, and install and test new equipment.

  • Perform control system set-up, operations, fault isolation and repair of computer-controlled and embedded computer devices.

  • Conduct special studies and prepare technical reports regarding equipment performance and improvement.

  • Manage the organizations assets, including inventory and configuration control.

  • As required, develop specifications for new equipment, generate requirement documents and Request for Quotes (RFQ) for complex systems. Analyze quotes against requirements and recommend suppliers for new systems.

  • Attend project level meeting as the Control Systems expert and participate in NATO FORACS gap studies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 0-3 years experience.

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in electronics engineering, ocean engineering or related field.

  • Must be able to lift and carry material up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to climb stairs/ladders and able to work in tight spaces and work at heights.

  • Must be able to deploy to sea for short durations on range support working craft.

  • Able to travel to locations away from headquarters 25% of the year, for short durations (typically 1-2 weeks) depending on testing schedule.

  • Must be able to deploy to locations with limited medical facilities for short duration.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Access.

  • Must have/maintain a valid Driver’s License.

  • Must have/obtain a US Passport within 30 days.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Security Clearance; US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus two to three (2-3) years’ experience in test and evaluation of radar/acoustic systems, preferred.

  • Familiar with naval shipboard operations, terminology, customs, traditions, and protocol.

  • Knowledge of acoustics theory, RF propagation theory, GPS tracking systems and computer networking.

  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy surface ship, submarine and helicopter navigation and target sensor systems.

  • Expert level knowledge working with Excel.

  • Experience operating with in ISO 9001 QMS, Lean or other quality system.

  • Inventory/Asset Control.

  • Matlab or similar advance data analysis software.

  • Experience in software/hardware integration.

  • Active Secret Clearance, preferred.
