Who will you be working with?

The DevOps Solution Architecture is responsible for driving digital transformation of modern software development practices for the Network Optimization product teams. Your contributions in this role will directly impact train management and logistic software applications all over the world. Our team is a highly collaborative and passionate team of distributed, highly technically skilled engineers. The contributions made on an individual level will greatly impact the DevOps strategy for the Wabtec business and the Network Optimization product teams.

How will you make a difference?

In this role, you will provide an essential part of the DevOps management for products using bleeding edge technologies in concert with cloud native software architecture patterns to create highly reliable and available systems for the largest train companies in the world. You will be critical to driving team success, reporting on success to executive leaders, employing cost savings strategies, providing technical guidance, and hands on assistance for teams in this P&L. We desire a servant leadership approach to drive team collaboration and cohesion. You will report to the Director of DevOps Solution Architecture.

What do we want to know about you?

Technical skillsets that would be required, but not limited to, are the following; Kubernetes, Docker, SDLC, CI/CD, Cloud, Microservice Design, Agile Software Development, Application Profiling, Monitoring & Observability. Your technical choices will create a pattern for other groups and products to model for implementation of best practices and ensure a comprehensive and complete DevOps methodology for the business.

What will your typical day look like?

Management of existing devops engineering team made up of 12 engineers

Thought leadership on modern devops best practices and execution of complex, cloud focused application projects

Expertise in Kubernetes is required; ability to build, maintain, and run workloads on Kubernetes according to modern best practices

Support and improve tooling for continuous build, automated testing, and release management

Knowledge and practical experience of cloud platforms and best practices (AWS Preferred)

Ability to debug code in python, bash, and batch scripts

Linux system administration experience preferred, with a focus on networking and containers workloads

Expertise in Docker and contained containerization technologies

Experience with trunk-based development models of software development, and applying principles of SDLC and agile methodologies

Coach and foster team to focus on ‘T-Shaped’ method of team development

Make technology choices at an individual product level and has the ability to analyze and measure impact across business and communicate value to executive leadership

Profile build processes and identify bottlenecks

Implements Continuous Integration/Deployment build principles

Provide expertise in quality engineering, test planning and testing methodology for a software project

Build and maintain documentation related to build processes and product environmental configurations

Design DevOps solutions that are agnostic and reusable to multiple application team use

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manage the existing devops team consisting of 12 engineers (7 full time employees, 4 contractors)

Participate in hiring and recruitment efforts, including interviews for employees in the DevOps Architecture department.

Provide technical leadership on best practice implementation and ensuring consistency in DevOps methodology

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
