CITY OF WEST JORDAN Wastewater Operator I, II, or III in WEST JORDAN, Utah
A Full-Time, Non-exempt Wastewater Operator I, II, or III for an employer in West Jordan, UT.
SUMMARY
Under immediate supervision, responsible for performing a variety of apprentice level duties involved in the operation, maintenance, and repair of utility collection systems, equipment, and facilities.
Status: Full-time, Non-exempt
Pay Range: Operator I: $20.22 - $28.87
Operator II: $22.34 - $31.86
Operator III: $24.07 - $34.31
Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, 6:30am -- 5:00pm Monday -- Thursday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assigned to work in Wastewater Operations Division or Wastewater Repair Division and will work generally within that division to test, maintain, inspect, repair, and clean the various utility pipes, fittings, inlets, valves, or other apparatus associated with the utility.
- Emergency call-out or overtime repair work, working in various weather conditions, at various times of the day/night.
- Perform general maintenance and cleanup duties around facilities.
- Operate a variety of vehicles, tools, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of utility distribution and collection systems.
- Operate the sewer collections system by assisting in cleaning sewer main lines with use of combination jet truck, clearing blockages with use of rodders, cutters, and other industry methods.
- Operate TV truck and related equipment to inspect sewer and storm drain lines
- Operate TV inspection software and information filing programs.
- Assist experienced operators in maintaining sewers and wastewater cleaning equipment such as a Jet truck and maintain TV inspection equipment to keep equipment in operating order by inspecting, removing, repairing, and replacing malfunctioning parts and sections.
- Perform entry level construction and repair tasks.
- Remove and inspect manhole covers and inform lead operators of manhole imperfections, for the inspection report.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Valid Utah Driver's License
- Possession of, or ability to obtain a Utah commercial driver's license within 1 year of employment in the position.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain Traffic Control Flagger, Trench Shoring, and Confined Space certificates within 6 months of employment (training typically provided by City). Director may grant extension if training isn't available during 6-month
WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR I
*Experience: *One year of experience performing construction related activities.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain Grade I Wastewater Collection System certificate within 1 year of employment.
WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR II
*Experience: *Two years of experience performing construction related activities.
Certifications/Licenses:
Possession of unrestricted Grade I (or higher) Wastewater Collection System
WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR III
*Experience: *Four years of experience performing construction related activities.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Possession of Grade IV (restricted or unrestricted) Wastewater Collection System

Knowledge of:

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs. Exposure to outdoor environments including various harsh weather conditions, noise, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, dust, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards. Ability to travel to different sites and locations. Availability for on-call, stand-by, and emergency call duties.
