As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk — or Independent Risk Management — provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework ( and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk.

The Consumer Credit team is responsible for leading, developing and implementing strategic initiatives and processes to drive the company credit culture, appetite, and business performance. Applies subject matter knowledge to serve as a consultant and resource to corporate and/or line of business management regarding credit performance, potential or emerging risks, and business conformity with risk appetite, credit culture, and policies.

This Consumer Credit Associate will be responsible for handling the most complex quality assurance within home preservation. You will assess problems and issues to ensure activities follow the necessary internal and external regulatory and risk management practices. You will regularly contribute to the development of new concepts, techniques and standards. Serving as a consultant to management on matters relative to policies and procedures. Leading reviews including analysis and trending of findings, proposed recommendations for change to impact future quality, test development and reporting on results. May be a decision maker for exceptions to guidelines. May act as a Team Leader or trainer to other employees.

Within Default Servicing credit functions you will be responsible for a high volume of work including underwriting quality reviews, developing your risk management skills, learning underwriting policy for new portfolios and escalating any risks or issues. You also will perform timely reviews that are impactful and make any policy/program and operational recommendations, as applicable. On an ongoing basis, you will collaborate with internal business partners to ensure correct business execution and interpretation of credit policy. The Consumer Credit Associate may also lead quality reviews, which includes gathering data for a review; Setting the review up in review database; Leading others in the review; Completing second level reviews on others work and findings; Communicating the results with the business and writing the review memo and all the follow up that would be needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a risk role demonstrated through work or military experience; or a Master's degree or higher in business or economics

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong, clear and concise written and oral communication skills

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of default servicing underwriting systems within Wells Fargo – MSP/Fidelity, ECAR, Early Resolution, etc.

  • Previous formal judgmental Quality Review experience or prior experience reviewing real estate loan underwriting decisions.

  • Wells Fargo Home Preservation Underwriting experience. Good attention to detail, decision making and collaboration skills

  • 5+ years underwriting or quality review experience that includes real estate lines of business and involves experience analyzing and reviewing financial documentation required to accurately cash flow a file.

  • Knowledge of Real Estate Home Preservation underwriting and default credit policies.

  • Prior experience in a team lead, mentoring and/or training capacity

  • Excellent partnership, organizational and time management skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
