Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. IT Applications Engineer in West Chester, Ohio

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking an IT Applications Engineer (VMS Developer with PASCAL and Cobol language knowledge) at our West Chester, Ohio office. The VMS Developer will be part of the Information Technology department for Enterprise Applications. As a Software Engineer in Enterprise Applications, you will be a member of the Commercial applications team. This position’s focus is on support, software development, and working as a team to design solutions for the Commercial and Unit Scheduling areas. The position includes maintaining legacy applications that manage the tracking and data associated with customer orders. This will include the creation and management of customer parts and orders, and interfaces to various downstream systems such as Routing, Capacity Management, Order Promising, Shop Floor, Supply Chain, and Invoicing.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing IT support for the VMS system Commercial and Unit Scheduling applications and backup support for Micro Focus Commercial systems.

  • Communicate and work closely with business units for problem resolution and customer business support.

  • Determine and document requirements based on business customer input. D ocument programs, develop test plans, and conduct testing as necessary to assure good quality solutions which provide proper functioning of programs, and documented test results.

  • Work closely with the manager to plan work based on business priorities.

  • Work alongside other team members to promote innovative solutions, explore new technologies, and offer enhancements to existing systems and platforms.

  • Document each aspect of a system or application for reference in future upgrades and maintenance.

  • Be able to efficiently identify and resolve issues that arise during the design, testing, and maintenance process using problem solving skills.

  • Have excellent time management and communication skills.

  • Follow department standards including utilization of the software development lifecycle and change management.

  • Be available for off hour calls for main support systems.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of IT experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related Engineering field or equivalent work experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with VMS, VAX, Alpha platforms.

  • Experience with Programming Language COBOL, Pascal, C, DECforms, FORTRAN, DECMessageQ.

  • Be available for after-hours support when necessary.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of IT experience.

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Management or Equivalent.

  • Manufacturing or Steel experience.

  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence.

  • Experience with Visual Studio, Git, DBeaver, PSPad, JCL, Micro Focus Enterprise, DB2/IMS, SAS.

  • Experience with AIX.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL a plus.
