KBR is seeking a SENIOR TECHNICIAN to support our SPACE SUIT ASSEMBLY, INTEGRATION, & TESTING TEAM for KBR’s Science and Space division.

Technician III – Advanced Space Suit Program Support

The AI&T senior technician will be responsible for testing and maintenance of hardware including, but not limited to: Space Suits and Suit components, EVA Tools and Crew Aids, Ancillary equipment and other contracts and subsystem equipment as required. Testing of hardware will include repair and maintenance, cleaning, inspection, Engineering Change (EC) incorporation, assembly, disassembly, and performance/functional testing. Repair and maintenance processes require the use of hazardous materials such as adhesives, lubricates, and solvents. Performance and functional testing require the use of pressurized gases and pure water systems. The technician will perform duties per documented procedures and work authorizing documents. The technician will assist Engineering in various activities including fit checks for suited subjects, manned test support, suited chamber events, classroom training event support and other similar support events. Additionally, the technician will interface with customers, other technicians, engineers, logistics, and bond room personnel on a daily basis to perform job duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintenance, assembly, testing, repair, and processing of hardware to support various events, and deliverables; incorporates engineering changes, and performs functional performance testing of space suit components or related hardware, associated Extravehicular Activity (EVA) hardware, and other systems of hardware as assigned.

  • Assistance to engineering in the location and diagnosis of anomalies and recommends corrective action.

  • Daily tasks associated with reading engineering drawings/schematics, equipment specifications, test procedures etc.

  • Specified training online, and in classroom, as required to maintain certifications to perform job functions.

  • Daily updates to various job-related database(s)

  • Adherence to Quality and Safety requirements

  • Transportation responsibilities to operate motor vehicle for delivery of hardware to various events.

  • Daily verbal and written communication with other technicians, leads, engineers, managers, other personnel, and customers

  • Train and mentor less experienced technicians

    REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree plus applicable years related Technical Degree or Military Technical School (skilled craft level five) or the equivalent of High School diploma plus applicable years of directly related work experience in a manufacturing or testing environment.

  • Candidate must have a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record and be able to operate a government vehicle.

  • Must be able to pass Clean Room and Controlled Work Area Training

  • Must have excellent mechanical skills and be able to read, comprehend, and execute detailed technical processing procedures, engineering drawings, and Work Authorizing Document directions.

  • Ability to use and apply basic hand and power tools along with measuring tools including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, and thread gauges.

  • Capable of working in a high-performing team environment

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Excellent leadership skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • A minimum of 15+years of related experience

    PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or STEM discipline

  • Experience with space suit hardware processing, testing and maintenance.

  • Experience with EVA tool hardware processing, testing and maintenance.

  • Experience with precision cleaning of fabricated parts and assemblies.

**This position requires successful completion of a government background check before commencement of employment.
