Waverly Health Center Medical Lab Technician OR Medical Technologist .15 FTE in Waverly, Iowa

SCHEDULE FTE: .15

There would be a weekend rotation and a holiday rotation. Hours would be primarily 2nd shift. MEDICAL LAB TECHNICIAN REQUIREMENTS: PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Performs and interprets routine diagnostic procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, and immunohematology. Ensures high quality results of testing in an expeditious manner that promotes cost containment. Responsible for recognizing results or problems that require referral to the supervisory staff or Pathologist. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Experience, and Training

  • Must possess an Associates degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.

  • Certification is preferred within 6 months of hire as a Medical Laboratory Technician through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or comparable certification agency.

  • Prior experience in Laboratory setting is preferred.

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

  • Must possess effective communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.

  • Must possess valid Iowa driver’s license as applicable to the position.

  • Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting – Approximately 25% of shift.

  • Standing – Approximately 50% of shift.

  • Walking – Approximately 50% of shift.

  • Lifting – Approximately 50 pounds.

  • Twisting – Infrequent.

  • Bending – Infrequent.

  • Squat/Kneel – Approximately 25% of shift.

    MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST REQUIREMENTS: PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • Performs and interprets routine diagnostic procedures in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, and immunohematology.

  • Ensures high quality results of testing in an expeditious manner that promotes cost containment.

  • Responsible for recognizing results or problems that require referral to the managerial staff or Pathologist.

  • Leads the daily activities of the laboratory, including the monitoring of daily preventative maintenance and quality control.

  • Assists with the clinical development of other laboratory department staff members by serving as both mentor and consultant and holds self, peer and staff accountable.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Experience, and Training

  • Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory scientist.

  • It is preferred that the candidate meets the requirements of Technical Consultant/Technical Supervisor under Federal Register Sec 493.1489.

  • Certification is preferred within 6 months of hire as a Medical Laboratory Technologist through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or comparable certification agency. If certification is not obtained within 6 months, the applicant will be transitioned to a more suitable position according to their qualifications.

  • Prior experience in Laboratory setting is preferred.

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

  • Must possess effective communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Must possess valid Iowa driver’s license where applicable. .
