Job Description Summary

As the Design For Service (DFS) AI Principal Engineer within Global Services at GE HealthCare, you will lead DFS AI workstream for the service franchise. You will collaborate with AI scientists, product managers, solution architects, and system designers to deliver innovative features that improve outcomes for customers.

In this role, you will drive standards and contribute to defining and developing modern ML/DL methods to uncover patterns within extensive machine data sets. Lead the development of cutting-edge generative models & AI strategies for GE HealthCare, emphasizing on-device solutions and drive innovation in pretraining & prompt tuning methodologies, fostering synergy across SBUs for business expansion.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • As a Principal Engineer in Global Services team, you will provide leadership on enabling data science and machine learning capabilities in Design For Service (DFS) enabling precision diagnostics

  • Lead the technical discussions that facilitate the integration of artificial intelligence capabilities across the service portfolio.

  • Lead the model development lifecycle including model design, experiment, evaluation, prototyping, and production.

  • Analyze data sources, analytics, and machine learning models, including Large Language Models (LLMs) to map them to feature sets.

  • Contributing to the development of software and data delivery platforms that are service-oriented with reusable components across teams (multiple teams) that can be orchestrated together into different methods for different businesses.

  • Develop an architecture roadmap and implementation strategy tailored to meet business and customer needs.

  • Provide guidance to teams during the implementation phase. Teaches, coaches, and mentors less experienced engineers and/or scientists

  • Oversee the integration and operationalization of solutions with a customer-centric approach.

  • Collaborate with GEHC AI team to adopt best practices and shared models.

  • Stay abreast of technology trends to ensure alignment of architecture and design with emerging opportunities.

  • Researching and evaluating emerging technology, industry, and market trends to assist in product development and/or operational support activities.

  • Demonstrate technical and/or scientific thought leadership within and outside of GE

  • Work with internal and external organizations (GRC, academics, vendors, etc.) to develop technical and/or scientific differentiation for the future

  • Guide multi-generational technology and/or scientific strategies based on understanding of the market, customer needs, competitors, and regulatory requirements/standards

  • Lead the intellectual property strategy for a technology or scientific function or product area based on understanding of GE and competitive technologies

  • Oversee standardization, technical design reviews and quality culture

Additionally, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing novel machine learning algorithms, particularly in the area of LLMs, to provide automation of tasks using one or more data sources such as machine logs, usage, telemetry data

  • Working with large-scale datasets, designing, and developing generative algorithms.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

  • 10+ years of technical experience along with established leadership credentials across disciplines and functions.

  • 5+ full-time experience in enterprise software architecture - emphasis on implementation of scalable technical solutions in products.

  • Hands on experience in AI & Generative AI development for commercial applications.

  • Implementation experience with a variety of high-level languages (e.g. Python, Java/C/C++)

  • Experience creating production environment data analytics and applications

  • Experience with time-series data.

Desired Characteristics

  • PhD with 5+ years' experience inbuilding large scale AI such as generative AI models, large vision/language models, and multi-modal AI models

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Experience and demonstrated capability to handle challenges with vague or abstract problem definition.

  • Experience with frameworks and tools such as DeepSpeed, HuggingFace, Megatron, PyTorch lightning,Langchain, AWS sagemaker, AWS Bedrock, Lambda Index etc.

  • In depth experience with Spark/Hadoop and either PyTorch or TensorFlow

  • An in-depth understanding of machine learning algorithms and modeling (e.g., semi-supervised or weakly supervised learning, generative models, transfer learning, optimization, large language models, etc.)

  • Track record in developing machine learning solutions using massive real-world data for solving real world business problems.

  • Desire to continuously learn, grow, develop new skillsets, and work with new technologies.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
