Join our Manulife Bank Support Team!

We are looking for a Back End Software Engineer with a few years of experience committed to designing, developing and improving software products. Help us to deliver resilient and scalable applications, with a focus on continuous delivery and agile principles. Creativity in solving problems is your strength. Responsibilities:

  • Identify and evaluate solutions to system issues and consider opportunities to improve on current technical strategies.

  • Provide Development for IT inspired change requests (nonfunctional).

  • Keep production systems up, monitor, handle and address alerts.

  • Part of On-Call Support within a high availability environment (Rotation every 3 weeks)

  • Provide support and coordination of infrastructure changes.

  • Investigate root cause and work towards elimination of production interruptions.

  • Liaison with other Manulife teams and vendors for production incidents.

  • Recommend areas of improvement to infrastructure, application, and/or processes to prevent or mitigate future failures.

  • Monitor the ongoing performance of the business systems regarding root cause elimination errors and end user experience.

  • Review for overall system availability and response times.

  • Review current software framework to identify defects and opportunities to improve performance and stability.

  • Create user documentation to facilitate ongoing maintenance and support.

  • Apply well-adapted coding practices to enable agility and delivery of high quality code and guide other team members as required.

Experience and Skills:

  • 3+ years of hands-on development experience in multiple IT projects, with dynamically increasing responsibility.

  • Work experience in data integration projects using modern patterns including batch, APIs, Web Services, and message/event.

  • Hands on experience with database design and development experience. MS SQL/Oracle PL-SQL.

  • Working experience in Services development using JAVA Spring boot, Node JS or .Net Technologies (.NET Core, C# ) or similar technologies.

  • Acquainted to Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)

  • Familiar with batch job schedulers.

  • Comfortable with finding open-source solutions.

  • Exposure to Azure or AWS cloud and Microservices concepts.

  • Excellent diagnostic, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in SDLC and Agile methodology for project development, participating in all phases of the project.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Collaborative to work with team members; able to coach, participate in code reviews, share skills and method.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with continuous integration, test driven development and automated testing.

  • Experience working in a financial services firm.

  • Experiments with emerging technologies and understanding how they will affect what comes next.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Waterloo, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$74,270.00 CAD - $137,930.00 CAD
