POSITION TITLE:  Medication Technician

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Care Coordinator, Care Manager, and Executive Director

 

All duties and standards within this document shall be performed according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines of the facility.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible and accountable for the direct care of residents as directed by the administrator.  Performs other duties as assigned in meeting the needs of the facility as listed below.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

(Any position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the examples include all of the tasks that may be performed.)

 

1) Resident Care Responsibilities

  1. Follows universal precautions.
  2. Assists with feeding if needed.
  3. Hygiene - bathes residents, changes occupied and unoccupied beds, performs diaper changes and perineal skin care.
  4. Performs safety checks to include fall precautions.
  5. Ambulates, transports, and positions residents with proper body mechanics.
  6. Psychosocial interventions - provides divisional activities, comforts and supports resident/family.
  7. Prepares and serves meals as required.
  8. Assist in meeting physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of each resident.
  9. Handle emergency situations appropriately according to procedure manual.
  10. Performs daily tasks according to schedule.
  11. Know whereabouts of residents at all times both in the home and in the community by performing 2-hour checks.
  12. Available for mandatory stay when required.
  13. Ability to pass medications and navigate QMAR

     

     

2) Communication

  1. Informs Manager and Resident Family/Designated Representative of any/all pertinent information regarding changes in resident's condition or care. Note: This applies to all resident falls regardless of the perceived impact of the fall.
  2. Effectively relates to and interacts with residents, families, visitors and other staff.
  3. Records observations and care interventions on appropriate forms.
  4. Records patient notes, weights, vitals, and other information pertinent to the continuation and development of resident care.

     

     

3) House Responsibilities

  1. Communicates supply inventory with Operations Manager.
  2. Maintains clean and orderly resident environment.
  3. Removes, labels, and reports any malfunctioning equipment.
  4. Performs daily tasks according to schedule.

               

4) Personal Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrates ability to give care cooperatively with co-workers.
  2. Keeps Management or Leader informed when tasks are completed: uses any unstructured time to assist other staff and or for general housekeeping.
  3. Attends staff meetings.
  4. Actively participates in quality management and continuing education activities. Updates and maintains knowledge, skills and competencies related to age of resident population.

     

5)  Meal Planning Responsibilities

Prepare food items in advance for subsequent shifts and snack times.

Prepares and serves meals as required.

Identify special dietary needs of residents as specified in resident care agreements, assessments, or physician orders and incorporate into weekly or monthly planned menus.

Periodically compile and review resident preference list.

Informs Operations Manager of any/all pertinent information regarding changes in resident's menu.

Communicates inventory needs and status, maintains ongoing inventory needs.

Communicates any environmental conditions that may be potentially hazardous to food service preparation
