Summary: This position is responsible for coordinating with Qayaq Construction Equipment Manager in equipment repair and maintenance process for all Alaska based heavy duty equipment and misc. construction equipment. Works with the Shop Foreman in conducting repairs and maintenance which are to be completed in a timely manner. This position is critical in keeping Alaska Operations going. This position answers to the Heavy Duty Shop Foreman and/or Qayaq Equipment Manager. Essential Duties: • Coordinate with HD Shop Foreman and other HD Field Mechanics in identifying and prioritizing all repair and maintenance needs.

• Identify any additional service work found during repair or servicing of the equipment.

• Work with the HD Shop Foreman and other HD Field Mechanics to diagnose machine problems and conduct repairs.

• Work with Shop Foreman and other HD field Mechanics to identify parts and wear items to be ordered in anticipation for repairs.

• Receive guidance and instructions from Shop Mgr. & Shop Foreman on a regular basis in the effort of constantly improving on production and performance.

• Must to be familiar with electronics, or use electronic diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot repairs. • Must be able to look at mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, identify problems, and think about possible solutions.

• Other duties as assigned. Knowledge & Critical Skills/Expertise:

• Strong technical background.

• Strong communication skills.

• In depth knowledge of Construction Equipment technology.

• Able to multi-task.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

• Postsecondary degrees in diesel technology, heavy equipment mechanics, small engine repair, engineering or similar. May be substituted with 10 years HD shop experience.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Must possess Class A CDL with Hazmat Endorsement

• Must be familiar with CAT, John Deere and all other Competitive products.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to crawl and climb on/under machines

• Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds

• Able to walk over construction/excavation sites (irregular terrain)

• Able to stoop, bend, kneel and stand

• Able to operate a motor vehicle day and night

Environmental Conditions:

• Requires ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Frequent exposure to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, cold, fumes, and hard, damp floors and ground.

• Works on parts systems that are dirty, oily, or greasy.

• Frequently exposed to possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while working on equipment.

• Exposed to the hazards of working around machinery with moving parts.

• Potential exposure to loud noises.

• May at times work with various chemicals such as solvents, oils, fluids, and lubricants. MSDS are available.

• Ability to handle hazardous materials with proper protection.

• Required to wear various levels of PPE (hearing protection, respiratory protection, safety glasses; hard hats, knee pads, insulated rubber or leather gloves, fall protection, and protective clothing.

• Some safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may have to be worn or used for long periods.
